COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team continues their winning ways to kick off their spring home schedule as they blast past Colorado State University Pueblo 82-60 Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half opened up with a back-and-forth battle as both teams tried to find their footing early in the contest. The opening 9:19 of play featured four ties and three lead changes, as UCCS finished that stretch with the 23-17 lead. Martinez guided the effort for UCCS with 7 points for UCCS off three buckets including a triple to help UCCS to the six-point advantage midway through the first half.
- Both teams matched each other for the rest of the period and into halftime with UCCS keeping the ThunderWolves from making their way back to striking distance as the Mountain Lions held the two-possession lead at 39-34 at the break.
- After their opening two baskets of the second half, CSUP had cut the lead to just two at 41-39, but UCCS responded with a 17-10 run to pull away to a 12-point lead at 58-46.
- It was all UCCS the rest of the way as the Mountain Lions embarked on another run, this time outscoring the T-Wolves 24-14 over the final 9:16 and cruising to their fifth straight win, downing Colorado State University Pueblo 82-60.
STATS FROM THE GAME
- Xavier Martinez was hitting shots left and right Saturday afternoon, finishing with a season high 25 points, falling just shy of his career best of 27 (1/26/24 vs Chadron St.)
- Four Mountain Lions finished in double figures as Martinez (25), Hannes Saar (19), Derek Pranger (12), and William Becker (11) all lit up the scoresheet.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- UCCS extends their season long winning streak to five games, the longest streak for the program since they won five straight to start the 2022-23 season (11/11/22-11/23/22).
- William Becker closes in on the program's all-time blocked shots record as he sits on 133 career rejections, just three behind Derrick White's program record of 136.
- Head Coach Jeff Culver earns career win number 196 as he closes in on being the first Mountain Lion skipper to eclipse 200 wins at UCCS.
