HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tuesday night's action started slowly on the offensive side for both teams until Maison White and Amyah Moore Allen opened the scoring with a pair of lay-ups. These baskets got the Mountain Lions going as they opened to a 13-6 lead. Breelyn Robinson closed the first quarter with a three-pointer with an assist from Ellie Reynolds, and UCCS entered the second quarter with a 16-9 lead. The Mountain Lion's defense held the Bronchos to 3-of-12 shooting (25 percent) from the field in the first quarter while forcing seven turnovers and blocking four shots.
  • The defensive barrage continued, and the offense caught fire to open the second. In the opening five minutes and 24 seconds of the frame, UCCS went 6-of-7 from the field, including baskets from Moore Allen and Amaya Snowden and three three-pointers between Gia Bradley and Ellie Reynolds, en route to a 15-5 run. UCO responded with a 9-2 run to pull themselves within 10 (33-23). However, the Mountain Lions closed the first half strong, carrying a 41-27-point lead into the break. UCCS shot 10-for-13 (76.9 percent) in the second quarter, shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.
  • The Mountain Lions brought the same energy from the first half into the opening minutes of the second, increasing their lead to 21 (50-29) at the 5:43 mark of the third quarter. UCCS didn't let up for the remainder of the third, holding the Broncho's offense to shoot just 4-of-11 on their way to a 24-point lead (62-38) going into the fourth quarter.
  • The final frame of this blowout effort saw UCCS make only one basket in the opening three and a half minutes of the quarter: a Jayla Jackson-Allen three-pointer. From the 6:30 mark and on, the Mountain Lions turned it up, piecing together a 13-3 run with buckets coming from Ellen Silva, Snowden, Robinson, Krystina Hagood, and Rylie Ottmann, helping UCCS cruise to a 78-54 blowout victory.
