HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions started the afternoon with Amyah Moore Allen finding Maison White on a well-executed entry pass, freeing White up for an easy lay-in. UCCS let it fly from deep to open the game, with Ellie Reynolds hitting back-to-back trays and a three-pointer from Emily Vidal to open a 16-6 lead. The two teams closed the first quarter on an 8-8 run, and the Mountain Lions carried a 10-point lead (24-14) into the second.
- The Eagles pulled themselves within nine points (32-23) to open the frame, but UCCS's defense shut them down. The Mountain Lions closed the first half with a 15-5 run, with White scoring eight, Jayla Jackson-Allen splashing a three, and a pair of free throws from Moore Allen and Vidal. The Mountain Lions brought a commanding 47-28-point lead into the break.
- Chadron State cut slightly into their deficit to open the third quarter, but four straight points from Mya Wilson pushed UCCS' lead back up to 19 (54-35) with 5:09 left to go in the frame. The Eagles hung around the remainder of the quarter, but the Mountain Lions entered the fourth with a 61-45 lead.
- The fourth quarter was highly competitive and chippy as CSC came back to bring their deficit within eight points (64-56) with 5:24 to go in the game. With momentum seemingly slipping from UCCS, Moore Allen connected with White in the low-post, who hit a tough bucket while being fouled to put the Mountain Lions back up 11 with 4:22 to go. This basket helped UCCS regain control, and with the help of good free throw shooting, the Mountain Lions increased their lead back up to 16, winning 82-66.
