HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions came out of the gates fired up, going on a 22-8 run in the first 10 minutes started by a slam by graduate forward William Becker off the feed from Hannes Saar and ended on a Joshua Ray layup. UCCS held the Bears to under 10 points until a three by Isaiah Martinez with 8:53 left in the first made it an 11-24 game. The Mountain Lions began to pull away about 13 minutes into the first half when Saar converted a dunk and a layup in the paint within a minute of gametime to go up 32-11 with 6:33 left in the half.
- Turnovers were a key issue for Barclay, totaling 11 in the first half, with the most prominent coming from a defensive stand by the Mountain Lions where blocks by Jayden Washington and Brady Jones led to a rebound by freshman guard Gavin Carter who drove to the other end of the court for a lay in to go up 44-13. Carter would go on to take control in the final five minutes of the first half, rounding up eight points with a three off another turnover as UCCS would take a commanding 50-17 lead going into the second.
- The second half was not much different than the first, as the Bears gave the ball away nine more times while UCCS went on a 28-19 run through the first 10 minutes that began with an Xavier Martinez three and ended with a dunk by Jones as the Mountain Lions went up 78 to 36. The Mountain Lions would go on to end the game on a 26-19 run, hitting two more three pointers in the process, ending with a 104-55 win.
