HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions and Orediggers traded possession in the first half of play, with Colorado School of Mines getting the better chances on UCCS through 45 minutes of play.
- Two partial breakaways for Mines' Bella Campos gave the Orediggers the first crack at the icebreaker, but both chances would be erased by Alexa Malaspina to keep the hosts off the board.
- The Mountain Lions were the first to find the net, as Taylynn Levi would flash to the middle in the 63rd minute, shooting back across her body to beat Allie Lundgren in the net for Mines.
- Co-Player of the year Reese McDermott for the Orediggers, received a ball sent over the top of the Mountain Lions defense, doing a nice job to stay onside, and converted on the breakaway to find the equalizer.
- Just six minutes later, it again was McDermott tipping a header past UCCS' back line to a streaking Bella Campos, who deposited her shot past a diving Malaspina, and into the net giving the Orediggers the 2-1 lead.
- With just under a minute left, again it was Levi in a dangerous area for UCCS. With her last gasp shot, the Mountain Lions hearts broke as the watched Levi's chance ring off the inside of the right post, but rebound back into play and stay out. Mines would kill the final seconds, as they prevail from behind and advance to the championship match on Saturday.
