Moore Allen Leads Mountain Lions to Narrow Victory Over Adams State, 68-65

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team won Saturday night in close fashion behind Amyah Moore Allen, who posted a season high 25 points on 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) shooting resulting in a 68-65 victory.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
  • Final: UCCS 68, ASU 65
  • Records: UCCS (10-6, 7-3 RMAC) | ASU (11-6, 6-3 RMAC)
  • Facility | Location: Gallogly Events Center | Colorado Springs, Colo.
  • All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions get back into the win column against Adams State after the Grizzlies snapped the Mountain Lions nine game win streak last year that spanned from December 6, 2014, through January 7, 2023. UCCS holds the all-time series advantage with a 27-19 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was the Mountain Lions who started off on the right foot Saturday night, as Krystina Hagood began the scoring with a floater in the lane followed by Maison White who hit a jumper off an assist from Emily Vidal.
  • Adams State would keep the game close until the four-minute mark where the Mountain Lions went on a 14-7 run that was capped off by Breelyn Robinson collecting a steal and assisting Amyah Moore Allen on a layup in transition to give UCCS a 22-14 lead to close out the first quarter.
  • The Grizzlies would find their stride to open the second frame as they went on a nine to nothing run in the first two minutes of the quarter to put themselves up 23-22. The final seven minutes of the first half would see UCCS and ASU trade baskets with the Mountain Lions having a 34-32 advantage going into the break.
  • Out of the half, neither team could find a rhythm as both the Mountain Lions and the Grizzlies struggled to find the bottom of the basket in the first five minutes of the third. This is when Moore Allen began to heat up as she scored seven straight points for UCCS from the 4:48 mark to the 2:23 mark with a pair of free throws, a three-ball, and a jumper just outside the restricted area. The Mountain Lions would hold a one-point lead (47-46) heading into the final quarter.
  • Adams State would not go away as they grabbed a 53-51 lead with 7:51 to go in the game. UCCS grabbed back momentum immediately as Briana Knabe, White, and Sydney Nilles helped their team go on a 7-0 run in the next two minutes and 30 seconds of play.
  • The Mountain Lions pushed their lead up to six with 2:10 to go after Robinson nailed two free throws but the Grizzlies refused to go out quietly. Their efforts would fall short though as with 11 seconds left, Moore Allen cut through the lane and got a left-handed scoop layup to fall to position UCCS up two. Moore Allen then grabbed a steal out of the Grizzlies inbound play with six seconds left, made a free throw, and then Hagood would grab a steal of her own to seal the 68-65 victory.
