  • Final: UCCS 2, PLNU 1
  • Records: UCCS (2-2-1, 0-0 RMAC) | PLNU (2-1-1, 0-0 PWC)
  • Location: Mountain Lions Stadium | Colorado Springs, Colo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half of this afternoon's match was a physical one with the refs letting both teams play through contact. The Mountain Lions defense showed composure in the first 16 minutes of play despite the Sea Lions getting three shots up, with none finding the back of the net.
  • After 22 minutes of play, UCCS got their second shot of the game up as Anna Vince attempted to take the lead but was blocked. For the next 12 minutes of play, the Mountain Lions applied pressure on the Point Loma defense while simultaneously containing their offense, as UCCS attempted three straight shots without interruption.
  • The game remained a tie until the 42nd minute, when Fie Steenberg made a soaring pass across the field near the right side of the goal, finding Abby Barhydt who freed herself for a shot with her left foot, finding the lower, left inside of the net resulting in UCCS taking a 1-0 lead and heading into the half with the advantage.
  • Out of the half, the Sea Lions applied pressure on the Mountain Lions defense as they attempted four shots in the first 10 minutes, but UCCS did enough to keep Point Loma from tying the match. UCCS responded to the Sea Lions attack as Fie Steenberg found midfielder Makayla Merlo running down the center of the field as she sent a ball from deep fitting it right under the top of the crossbar but right above the goalkeeper's reach finding the back of the net making the UCCS lead 2-0 in the 69th minute.
  • UCCS had the game under control and were 40 seconds away from victory until the Sea Lions attack led by Zoe Crockett were able to get passed the Mountain Lions defense and by a sliding Isabella Whitmore for a goal, making it 2-1 in the 89th minute. The Mountain Lions kept their cool and held on to secure the victory.
