COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With more than 4,000 hours of community service logged throughout the 2022-23 academic year, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs athletic department was ranked No. 5 in the nation in the recently released 2022-23 NCAA Division II Community Service Report by Helper Helper. The Mountain Lions also finish the academic year with four men's teams and four women's teams ranked among the top-ten Division II programs for community service hours.
The Helper Helper volunteer management platform benefits organizations of all sizes by tracking and coordinating their service. Helper Helper simplifies the organizational efforts for volunteer coordinators and helps volunteers easily find and schedule events. Helper Helper and the NCAA teamed up to help encourage student-athletes from over 200 schools to make a lasting impact on their communities.
The 2022-23 report highlights top teams, top schools, and the winners of both challenges that Helper Helper hosted this year.
UCCS climbed to the No. 5 position in the rankings by registering a nearly perfect 99% participation rate to reach 4,022 total community service hours for 11 different organizations in the community. The Mountain Lion's community service efforts for the 2022-23 academic year amounted to an economic impact of $114,809, while they also managed to raise $1,100 to donate directly to Make-A-Wish Colorado.
The Mountain Lions had eight teams ranked among the top-ten programs in the nation for their sport and gender:
- Baseball: 6th (11 hours per student-athlete)
- Men's Soccer: 7th (9 hours per student-athlete)
- Men's Golf: 8th (9 hours per student-athlete)
- Women's Golf: 9th (9 hours per student-athlete)
- Men's Basketball: 9th (16 hours per student-athlete)
- Volleyball: 10th (27 hours per student-athlete)
- Women's Lacrosse: 10th (11 hours per student-athlete)
- Women's Soccer: 10th (9 hours per student-athlete)
