HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In a low scoring first quarter, the Mountain Lions began their night with back-to-back made jumpers coming from Maison White with both assists coming from Agar Farres. The Mountain Lions closed out the first quarter strong and in control as Talia DePetrillo collected a steal and converted on the transition layup to put UCCS up 14-7 after the first frame.
  • The Mountaineers responded strongly to start the second quarter as guard Emmery Wagstaff scored five straight points in the middle of WCU's 9-2 run making the score 16-16 with 5:38 to go in the first half. UCCS responded themselves as Rylie Ottmann drained a three-pointer as Emily Hovasse assisted on the play. After good defense and a few more baskets made, the Mountain Lions headed into the half with a 25-22 lead.
  • To start the half, the Mountain Lions and Mountaineers traded baskets keeping the game close until Robinson made two consecutive three pointers putting UCCS up 40-31. The hot shooting didn't end there for Robinson as she drained a deep three at the buzzer, giving the Mountain Lions huge momentum going into the final frame.
  • UCCS started the fourth quarter in command after DePetrillo and Robinson both sunk three pointers giving the Mountain Lions their biggest lead of the game, 13. The Mountaineers slowly chipped away at the deficit, bringing the UCCS' lead to just five with 1:50 remaining. Tough defense and clutch free throw shooting would then seal the game and the lone senior, Sophie Abela, was able to check in at the end of the game for the final time as a Mountain Lion.
