HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Rangers jumped out to a 4-0 lead inside Gallogly Events Center Tuesday night before Jezza McKenzie connected with Mac Stodart to put UCCS on the scoreboard.  McKenzie continued pushing the offense with a three-pointer followed by a mid-range jumper to give UCCS their first lead of the game, 7-6, four minutes from the tip.  Noah Baca drew a foul and was sent to the line where he hit both attempts before David Jabedo made his first of two free throw attempts, pushing UCCS' lead to four, 10-6.  Jon'il Fugett joined in the scoring action, sinking a jumper and drawing a foul to convert the old-fashioned three-point play at the 12:29 mark, putting UCCS back on top, 15-13.
  • After the Rangers retook the lead on an and-one of their own, McKenzie drilled another three-pointer to knot the game at 18-18.  The Rangers David Simental went to work at the free throw line, going 5-for-5 over the course of 75 seconds as Eddy Egun capped off a 7-0 Regis run and a five-point lead with eight minutes left in the first half.
  • Both teams continued to battle against each other and trade baskets as neither team led by more than five points in the opening half.  Bracamonte kept the Mountain Lions in range of Regis as he poured in five straight points when Baca found him for a long three-pointer and two more free throws to close a 5-0 run.
  • Defense turned into offense in the final minute of the first half when Jabedo snagged a steal that turned into thunderous dunk from Baca, brining UCCS within one point of the Rangers at halftime, 39-38.
  • Regis came out of halftime on fire, hitting three straight three-pointers to outscore UCCS in the opening minutes, 9-2.  The Mountain Lions responded with driving layups from McKenzie and Fugett on their next two possessions, cutting into Regis' lead, 50-44.
  • The Rangers pulled away in the final 10 minutes, outscoring the Mountain Lions 23-8.  Regis hit 5-of-10 from the floor, including two three-pointers and were solid from the free throw line, making 11-of-15 to seal the win, 89-67.
