HOW IT HAPPENED
- Back-to-back jumpers from Breelyn Robinson and Agar Farres gave the Mountain Lions a quick 4-1 lead over the visiting Rangers. Farres hit a hook shot on an in-bounds play but Sam Deem from Regis came down the court to drain a three-pointer and knot the game at 6-6. Alexa Dominguez netted her first points of the game from a Maison White assist, and then grabbed a defensive rebound and pushed it up the court to find White for two points and a 10-6 lead. Deem drained another three-pointer before White lined up to hit both free throws to keep UCCS in front, 12-9. Erin Fry netted the Rangers fourth three-pointer of the first quarter to tie the game for the third time, but Talia DePetrillo answered with a three of her own to give UCCS a 19-16 lead after 10 minutes of action.
- The Mountain Lions lead was back to six after White made two straight layups less than 50 seconds into the second quarter. The Rangers fought back with a 9-0 run thanks in part to connecting on 3-of-4 field goals and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe for their first lead of the game four minutes into the quarter. Trailing by three points, Farres broke up the Rangers run and almost a six minute scoring drought by the Mountain Lions when she drove the lane for her sixth point of the game. UCCS kept within one possession of the Rangers the rest of the half, heading into halftime down three, 32-29.
- Sydney Nilles attacked the basket on the opening possession of the second half for a one-point deficit, but two straight buckets from the Rangers put their lead back to five points, 36-31. UCCS clawed back with a 6-0 run led by two free throws from Maison White and a layup, putting UCCS back on top, 37-36. Another 9-0 run by the Rangers put the Mountain Lions in an eight-point hole, but UCCS once again fought back to knot the game for the fourth time of the night. Gaia Zimbardo started the comeback with a jumper before DePetrillo and Ottmann hit two straight three-pointers to knot the game at 45-all. Regis closed the third stanza with four straight points as they held a 49-45 lead to end the third quarter.
- The Rangers turned on the pressure in the final stanza, outscoring UCCS 24-11. The Rangers were solid from the floor to close out the game, making 9-of-14 from the floor, three three-pointers and 3-of-4 free throws. Three of the Mountain Lions six three-pointers on the night came in the fourth quarter, but UCCS came up short to the top team in the league, falling at home 73-56.
