GOLDEN, Colo. – The Mountain Lions of University of Colorado Colorado Springs traveled to Golden, Colo. Saturday evening to take on the Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines. In a tightly contested match, Mines came out on top of UCCS, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS opened Saturday's action taking a quick 5-1 lead behind two Mines attack errors, two aces from libero Mackenzie Ransom and a kill from Nicole Medlin. The Mountain Lions expanded their lead after winning three straight rallies to give the black and gold an 11-5 lead on the scoreboard. The lead was swallowed up by the Orediggers as they went on a 9-0 run, highlighted by four kills and three aces from Presley Powell as the home team took a 14-11 run. Late in the opening set and trailing by five points, Medlin put down two straight kills followed by a third from Sydnee Walker to cut into Mines' lead, 23-20, but the Orediggers finished off the set, netting two of the final three points.
- The second stanza of the evening was parallel to the first set with UCCS taking an early and commanding lead. Lauryn Shockley and Medlin paired up to block Mines for the first point of the set before both teams traded leads in the early action. UCCS used a 6-0 run to knot the game at 3-3 and grow their lead to five, 8-3, after forcing CSM to commit three errors while Walker and Emery each put down a kill. After Julia Geiger and Raegen Emery capped off the 6-0 run with a block, UCCS took another comfortable lead, 11-6. The comeback started for the home team when they went on a 5-0 run to knot the set at 11-all. Three lead changes and two ties later, Mines took a 15-14 lead they would not relinquish, winning the second frame, 25-21.
- The third and final set belonged to the Orediggers as they led the entire set to post the third straight 25-21 decision. Mines out hit the Mountain Lions, 15-12, and on offensive output, hitting the ball at a .265 clip as UCCS hit .194.
MATCH STATISTICS
- Medlin registered a team high nine kills and committed only one error on 19 attempts for a .421 hitting mark. She also added three block assists and a solo block.
- Walker and Emery mirrored each other's offensive output with each tallying seven kills, five errors and 19 total attacks for a .105 hitting mark.
- Mitrovich posted 19 set assists and added three digs and a kill.
- Ransom notched two aces as Walker, Rylie Hahn and Julia Geiger each added one.
- The Orediggers were led by Emily Knight's 12-kill output.
- The home team bested UCCS in kills (44-36), hitting percentage (.257 to .182), aces (6-5) and digs (42-38).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- UCCS is ending the regular season on a four-match road swing.
- Shockley's six kills tonight brought her career total to 1,133, moving her into third place all-time. She also moved up to third place in the career record books for sets played with 455.
- Mines has now won 17 straight matches against the Mountain Lions.
