HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams stayed within one point of each other in the first seven rallies of the opening set, but an 8-1 run by Fort Lewis that featured four kills and two aces gave the blue and gold an 11-4 lead over UCCS.  The Mountain Lions were unable to catch the Skyhawks as FLC took set one, 25-16.  Raegen Emery notched four kills and Nicole Medlin tallied three kills while Lauryn Shockley dug up a set high 10 attacks.
  • The second set of the evening went to extra points, 27-25, in favor of FLC.  The Mountain Lions controlled the tempo in the early action. Shockley put the first point on the scoreboard from a kill that grew into a 4-1 UCCS lead.  Emery added one of her eight kills on the night to give UCCS a 12-9 run and force the Skyhawks to call a timeout.  Coming out of the break, Fort Lewis went on a 4-0 run to snag a 13-12 lead.  After a UCCS timeout, the Skyhawks went on an 8-0 run that saw four kills, two aces and two attack errors as UCCS found themselves down by eight points, 21-13.  The Mountain Lions clawed back into the action after Sydnee Walker served up two aces and Shockley threw down a kill to come within one point of FLC, 22-21.  Another kill by Shockley put UCCS on top, 25-24, but the Skyhawks answered with a kill of their own and blocked the last two UCCS attacks to take set two, 27-25.
  • The Mountain Lions continued to battle in the third frame to win their first set of the night, 25-23.  Down by as many as six points halfway through the action, the Mountain Lions rallied back from a four-point deficit late in the set.  Facing a 21-17 hole, Isabel Hudspeth and Shockley recorded back-to-back kills to bring UCCS within two points, 21-19, forcing FLC to call their second timeout.  The Mountain Lions pressed FLC to commit three errors in a four-rally span.  With the set tied at 23-23, Hudspeth came through with a kill before the set ended in an attacking error by Fort Lewis to seal the win for the Mountain Lions.
  • The fourth set belonged to the Skyhawks as they jumped out to a 9-1 lead and never looked back.  The Mountain Lions were held to five kills and a -.031 in the final stanza, while FLC served up four aces and tallied four blocks.
