RAPID CITY, S.D. – After a three-hour scheduling delay, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team matched up with Fort Lewis College Friday evening in a neutral site, non-conference Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Power Pod match, hosted by South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, S.D. One week after defeating the Skyhawks at home, 3-2, the Mountain Lions fell to FLC tonight in four sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams stayed within one point of each other in the first seven rallies of the opening set, but an 8-1 run by Fort Lewis that featured four kills and two aces gave the blue and gold an 11-4 lead over UCCS. The Mountain Lions were unable to catch the Skyhawks as FLC took set one, 25-16. Raegen Emery notched four kills and Nicole Medlin tallied three kills while Lauryn Shockley dug up a set high 10 attacks.
- The second set of the evening went to extra points, 27-25, in favor of FLC. The Mountain Lions controlled the tempo in the early action. Shockley put the first point on the scoreboard from a kill that grew into a 4-1 UCCS lead. Emery added one of her eight kills on the night to give UCCS a 12-9 run and force the Skyhawks to call a timeout. Coming out of the break, Fort Lewis went on a 4-0 run to snag a 13-12 lead. After a UCCS timeout, the Skyhawks went on an 8-0 run that saw four kills, two aces and two attack errors as UCCS found themselves down by eight points, 21-13. The Mountain Lions clawed back into the action after Sydnee Walker served up two aces and Shockley threw down a kill to come within one point of FLC, 22-21. Another kill by Shockley put UCCS on top, 25-24, but the Skyhawks answered with a kill of their own and blocked the last two UCCS attacks to take set two, 27-25.
- The Mountain Lions continued to battle in the third frame to win their first set of the night, 25-23. Down by as many as six points halfway through the action, the Mountain Lions rallied back from a four-point deficit late in the set. Facing a 21-17 hole, Isabel Hudspeth and Shockley recorded back-to-back kills to bring UCCS within two points, 21-19, forcing FLC to call their second timeout. The Mountain Lions pressed FLC to commit three errors in a four-rally span. With the set tied at 23-23, Hudspeth came through with a kill before the set ended in an attacking error by Fort Lewis to seal the win for the Mountain Lions.
- The fourth set belonged to the Skyhawks as they jumped out to a 9-1 lead and never looked back. The Mountain Lions were held to five kills and a -.031 in the final stanza, while FLC served up four aces and tallied four blocks.
MATCH STATISTICS
- Medlin and Shockley led UCCS with 10 kills each. Medlin finished the match with a .296 hitting mark behind 27 attempts and only two errors. She also added two block assists as part of her 11 points.
- Shockley posted 40 attempts tonight and added 17 digs.
- Walker accounted for seven kills and two of UCCS' four aces. Defensively she notched 16 digs and two block assists.
- The Mountain Lions hit .133 for the match after posting 46 kills on 166 attempts and 40 set assists. The Mountain Lions blocked four attacks and dug up 83.
- Alexis Hobie paced the Skyhawks behind 19 kills and a .259 hitting mark.
- FLC outhit the Mountain Lions, 55-46, and posted 10 blocks and 10 aces.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- UCCS has played in eight extra-point sets this season.
- The Mountain Lions fall to 0-7 all-time when facing FLC on a neutral site court.
- Walker tied her career high for most attacks in a set (37).
- The Mountain Lions 166 total attempts and 81 digs are the most this season in a four-set match.
- Shockley and Ransom set season highs in a four-set match as Shockley tallied 40 attempts and Ransom posted 19 digs.
- Shockley moved up in the career record books in points (fourth, 1291 points) and sets played (fourth, 446).
