COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team tied with No. 18 Colorado Mesa University Thursday night after being down 3-1 in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mavericks came out the gates applying offensive pressure scoring a goal in the 9th minute and adding another in the 15th minute putting CMU up 2-0 early on.
- The Mountain Lions responded in the 30th minute after Cole Van Holland attempted a header off a free kick that ricocheted off the goalkeeper as Rory Scott recovered the save, tipping it out to Kaydon Zamora-Reeves who found Alex Andersson who used his left foot to sneak it past three Mavericks getting UCCS on the board, 2-1.
- CMU scored yet again with 13 seconds remaining in the first half giving them a commanding 3-1 advantage going into halftime.
- The Mountain Lions flipped offensive control in their favor to come out of the half applying pressure on the Mavericks defense, posting five shots to CMU's one in the first six minutes after the break. UCCS found the back of the net again in the 63rd minute after Dani Barajas set up Kolby Raineri who sent the ball with his left foot to the top left corner making the score 3-2.
- The comeback effort continued as the Mountain Lions were able to tie it up in the 78th minute after a beautiful cross from Raineri found Andersson who headed the ball into frame. The rest of the match was a chippy one and saw both teams attempt two more shots before the final buzzer, but neither could break through resulting in a 3-3 draw.
GAME STATISTICS
- The Mountain Lions outshot the Mavericks 19-12, had more corner kicks (7-3), and had more assists (4-2). UCCS and CMU were even in saves with both having four.
- Alex Andersson's two goals in tonight's match were his seventh and eighth of the season. Raineri's 63rd minute goal was his fifth on the year.
- Scott and Zamora-Reeves 30th minute assist was Scott's third and Zamora-Reeves' first of the season. While Barajas' assist in the 63rd minute was his second and Raineri's 78th minute assist was his fourth.
- Five different Mountain Lions played the full 90 in tonight's match with those being Barajas, Andersson, Raineri, Marvin Putu, and goalkeeper Soren Russell.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With his two goals tonight, Andersson moves into a tie for sixth all-time in program history with 24 in his career. He also moves into eighth all-time in points with 57 in his career.
- Raineri moves into sole possession of second all-time in assists with 19 in his career. He also moves into second all-time in shots with 197.
UP NEXT
- The Mountain Lions have their final home game of the season next time out as the Westminster University Griffins come to Mountain Lion Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 22nd. The action is set to begin at 12 p.m. and 11 graduating seniors will be honored one hour prior to kickoff.
