HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions wasted no time getting on the board as just four minutes into the contest, a Fie Steenberg corner kick found the thigh of Jade Kinsey and ricocheted to the foot of Jessica Rockwell who tapped it home, giving UCCS the 1-0 lead.
- Ten minutes later in the 15th minute, a passing play ensued in the middle of the Yellow Jackets half, as once again it was Steenberg who went streaking down the left wing, held up her run as she turned a pass to Jessica Rockwell. Rockwell then swiveled a pass to Emily Aguilar who didn't hesitate, picking out the right side of goal and doubling the Mountain Lions lead.
- UCCS wasn't finished as they would add two more strikes before the halftime intermission. Anna Vince, who effectively shielded a pass from Steenberg, pushed it off for a blast from midfielder Makayla Merlo for the score. In the 22nd minute, Black Hills State failed a clearance as the ball rolled to freshman Taylynn Levi, who shot a knuckling attempt off the far post and in making it 4-0 for UCCS.
- The second half didn't boast much action, with the lone exception of a Hazel Wright corner kick in the 86th minute, which deflected off a defender and into the net for the fifth and final score for UCCS. The 5-0 score would hold, as UCCS leaves Spearfish with three points.
