HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game got off to a relatively slow start in terms of scoring chances with both teams whistled for fouls in the opening minutes of the match. UCCS would get the first chances on net as Taylynn Levi, Fie Steenberg, Emily Aguilar, and Ciara Garcia combined for a flurry of shots with three of the strikes landing on frame. MSUD keeper Kylie Bach was ready for the early tests, keeping UCCS out of the net.
- With the match remaining scoreless, both teams began to substitute around the 25th minute, as both sides brought in new personnel to try and break the stalemate.
- The Roadrunners would only get one shot on net in the first frame with Emi Matalon firing a chance at 36:38 of the first half, but reigning goalkeeper of the week Isabella Whitmore took care of business, keeping the Roadrunners off the board, as the teams parted for halftime still knotted at 0-0.
- In the second half, the Mountain Lions were met by a tighter Roadrunner defense, with the MSUD offense also finding better footing. The Roadrunners were able to fire off three more shots in the second half of action, but Whitmore continued her domination between the sticks, saving them all.
- UCCS would only get five shots off in the second frame, much less then the 12 they had in the first 45 minutes, but the 76th minute shot from Emily Aguilar gave the Mountain Lions the one goal lead, as a missed clearance attempt from MSU Denver let the ball roll to Aguilar who deposited it inside the far post for her third goal of the season.
- The one goal proved to be enough for UCCS who remain perfect in RMAC conference play, improving to 4-0 against RMAC competition.
