Volleyball Swept on the Road by Cougars

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team entered the CCU Events Center Saturday evening for their fourth league match of the season, but came up short to Colorado Christian University, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. COLORADO CHRISTIAN
  • In the opening set, the Cougars forced an attack error on the Mountain Lions to break the seventh tie of the set, 15-15.  CCU put their foot on the gas to end the set on a 10-5 run.  Hannah Ammerman accounted for six of the Mountain Lions 14 kills in the set as Jordyn Kinsey and Mackenzie Ransom each served up an ace.
  • UCCS rebounded to open the second stanza with a 4-0 lead behind a kill from Ammerman, an ace from setter Reilly Babcock and two straight attack errors from the Cougars.  The home team fought back and tied the set at 23-23 from a UCCS attacking error, and then closed out the set with a kill from Libby Goodman and another UCCS attack error to take a 2-0 lead in the match (25-23).
  • The Cougars controlled the third set, trailing only once by one point.  CCU held the Mountain Lions to a .148 hitting mark while posting 16 kills to UCCS' 10.  After an 8-8 tie midway through the set, CCU closed out the match putting down five kills in their final eight points.
 
MATCH STATISTICS VS. COLORADO CHRISTIAN
  • Ammerman tallied a match high 14 kills and finished the evening hitting .265 on 34 attempts.  She served up two aces and dug up five attacks. 
  • Raegen Emery was second on the team in kills with six, as Nicole Medlin and Julia Geiger each put down four.
  • Babcock was responsible for 27 of the Mountain Lions 31 assists.  As a team, UCCS hit .104 with 34 kills.
  • Ransom served up four aces as UCCS finished the night with 10 aces and only one service error.
  • UCCS dug up 39 attacks from CCU as Kinsey led both teams with 11 digs.
  • Goodman paced the Cougars with 13 kills and a strong .407 hitting mark.
           
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Kinsey's 144 digs this season brings her career total to 1,507 digs, ranking her fourth all-time.  She is 182 digs away from taking sole possession of third place in the career record books (Laura Meeter, 1,688 digs).
  • Ransom's four aces tonight marked a new career high.
  • UCCS' 10 aces ties for the second most in a match this season.

  • The Mountain Lions return home to play host to Adams State University on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m., and New Mexico Highlands University on Sept. 24 at 3 p.m.  Friday's match against the Grizzlies is White Out Night.  The first 300 UCCS students to the match receive a free t-shirt.
