HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Mountain Lions controlled the tempo for much of the opening half as they outshot the Nighthawks 6-3 and recorded three shots on goal. Despite the offensive control, UCCS was unable to find the net and the match went to halftime in a 0-0 tie.
  • The script was flipped in the opening minutes of the second half as the Nighthawks began to get their offense moving, firing off four shots, two on target, in the first sixteen minutes of the period.
  • With the match still scoreless in the 80th minute, the Mountain Lion's mounted a threat of their own with three consecutive corner kicks coming in a span of less than two minutes but were again unable to find the nylon and crack the scoreboard.
  • After a UCCS foul gave possession to NNU, the Nighthawks offense went to work as Lukas Juodkunaitis found Jake Levine for the game-winning goal with just 13 seconds remaining in the game.
STATS FROM THE GAME:
  • The Nighthawks held the advantage in shots (11-10) and shots on goal (7-3), while UCCS claimed an 8-0 lead in corner kicks.
  • Junior Jack Souder paced the Mountain Lions with three shots, while graduate student Marvin Putu logged two shots. Five other UCCS players recorded one shot apiece, including Lars Walczyk, Kolby Raineri, Carlos Vargas, Cole Van Holland, and Rory Scott.
  • Declan Domyan logged a full 90 minutes in frame for the Mountain Lions, allowing just one goal and recording a season-high six saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Thursday's matchup against Northwest Nazarene was the first for UCCS since the 2000 season. The match, played on Oct. 21, 2000, resulted in a 5-0 win for Mountain Lions and saw UCCS record the second most assists in a single game in program history with eight.
  • Senior forward Kolby Raineri recorded his 96th career shot in Thursday's contest and continues to move closer to the top-10 in UCCS men's soccer program history as he sits just 12 shots away from tying Cort Searls (108) for tenth all-time in the category.
  • Raineri has already made his stamp on history with the eighth most shots on goal in program history (50) and is just three SOG away from moving into a tie for seventh all-time.
