CLEVELAND, Ohio – University of Colorado Colorado Springs moves to No. 19 in the final Learfield Directors' Cup Division II winter standings, announced this morning by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). The Mountain Lions earned 109 pints at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, bringing their yearly total to 320 points after earning 211 points in the fall championships.
The Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and
USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
The Mountain Lions women's indoor track & field team collected 60 points after finishing 15
th overall at the national championship meet earlier this month, while the men's team finished 25
th for 49 points. Ten Mountain Lions combined to earn a program record 13 First Team All-America nods at the championship meet, while adding four Second Team All-America honors. The 9.5 team points on the men's side ranks as the third most in program history for an indoor national championship meet, while 18 points is tied for the third most in UCCS women's program history.
In the fall season, three teams qualified for the NCAA post-season. Men's cross country garnered the most points for UCCS – 75 points – after their program best fifth place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championship meet on Nov. 20. The women's cross country program contributed 72 points to the standings with a seventh place finish at the national championship meet, tying their best finish at the National Championship meet in program history. Qualifying for their second Sweet 16 appearance, the Mountain Lions women's soccer team reigned in 64 points with a ninth-place finish in the post-season. The Mountain Lions won their third straight RMAC Women's Soccer Regular Season Championship, and won the RMAC Tournament Championship, making it the first time in program history the Mountain Lions won both titles in the same season.
Grand Valley State University leads all 218 ranked teams with 754 points, followed by Colorado School of Mines (614.25) and Queens (540 points) to round out the top three. Twelve RMAC teams have earned points through the winter championships season. The Mountain Lions have earned the fourth most points of any RMAC team:
