LAST TIME OUT
  • Due to heavy snow in the Golden, Colo., area, UCCS' originally scheduled road series against Colorado School of Mines was relocated to Mountain Lion Field, where the Mountain Lions and Orediggers halved the four-game series with each team winning two games.
  • In game one of Saturday's twin bill, the Mountain Lions scored the first four runs and held the lead throughout the first six innings of play, but the Orediggers mounted a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh inning that was capped by a walk-off grand slam to give them a 7-4 series-opening win.
  • UCCS did well to turn the page from the tough ending in the first game of the series as they broke out for 13 runs in the first two innings of game two of the doubleheader. With a 14-6 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, UCCS starting pitcher Lexi Rayburn held the Orediggers scoreless to clinch the run-rule win and even the series at one game apiece.
  • The third game of the set featured a back-and-forth contest that saw the teams tied on three different occasions. The Mountain Lions would rely on a pair of freshmen to help them gain a 2-1 advantage in the series as Mackenzie Rutkoff entered the game in the fifth inning and held the Orediggers scoreless for the remaining three innings while Briana Mattos rewarded Rutkoff's efforts with a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the seventh inning in an 8-7 win for the Mountain Lions.
  • A 3-for-3 game from redshirt junior Sawyer Brewster in the final game of the weekend was not enough for the Mountain Lions to earn the series win as the Orediggers exploded offensively for ten runs and forced a series split with a 10-2 run-rule victory.
  • The UCCS offense posted a stellar .392 team batting average over the course of the series while scoring a total of 28 runs.
  • Bryn Horton and Solana Martinez tied for the team lead with seven hits each, while Brewster continued to flash her power stroke with three home runs and four RBIs on the weekend. Redshirt junior Peyton Reisman also put her power on display with a pair of home runs and a team-leading five RBIs.
RMAC RECORD/STANDINGS
  • Colorado Mesa University extended their winning streak to 21 games with a sweep against Adams State over the weekend and remained at the top of the conference standings with a perfect 14-0 record.
  • Colorado Christian swept Black Hills State University in a four-game series to stay hot on the tails of the Mavericks at 13-1 in RMAC play. Regis University also came out of the weekend with a sweep of Chadron State College to improve to 14-2 within the conference.
  • With a split of their weekend series against Colorado School of Mines, UCCS holds on to the fourth spot in the conference at 10-6. The Mountain Lions are trailed by a trio of teams sitting at the .500 mark in the RMAC, including Colorado State University Pueblo (8-8), Metropolitan State University Denver (7-7), and Mines (7-7).
  • Rounding out the rest of the conference standings are Fort Lewis College (5-11), Black Hills State (5-11), Adams State (3-13), New Mexico Highlands University (3-13), and Chadron State (3-13).
