Lexi Rayburn Tosses Complete Game Shutout In Game Two Of Double Header Sweep

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions played a barn burner and a pitcher's duel against the Chadron State College Eagles and came away victorious in both games winning 10-8 and 3-0.

All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions move to 23-20 all-time vs the Eagles.
 
How It Happened | Game One
  • The Mountain Lions got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first inning as they brought in three runs thanks to a lead-off homer run by Morgan Hernandez-Belew and a pair of doubles by Paige White and Peyton Reisman.
  • The Mountain Lions would add to their lead in the second inning with an RBI triple by Hernandez-Belew to drive in Mia Perez. Hernandez-Belew would later score on a stolen base by Briana Mattos. Chadron State would get those two runs back in the top of the third with two RBI singles to get the score to 5-2.
  • Paige White led off the bottom of the third inning with a line drive solo homer in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 6-2. She'd add an RBI single in the fourth inning where they'd also scratch across another run on a Solana Martinez sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 8-2.
  • Things would get stressful in the top of the seventh inning as Chadron mounted a comeback scoring four runs, in big part by a three-run home run by Addison Spears. Braelyne Crenshaw was able to lock things down after that shutting the door and getting the Mountain Lions the win.
Stats From The Game | Game One
  • Hernandez-Belew, Martinez, and White led the team with two RBIs each.
  • White and Martinez brought the pop to the middle of the order accounting for three hits apiece.
  • Braelyne Crenshaw had a strong start and would close the game out totaling four innings, three earned runs, five strikeouts and just one walk.
How It Happened | Game Two
  • After a scoreless first inning, UCCS hit paydirt twice in the second inning with a Sawyer Brewster solo bomb and a Mia Perez RBI groundout. Lexi Rayburn dominated in the circle giving up nothing and working her way out of a couple of jams, to maintain the 2-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning the Mountain Lions scrapped another run across as Perez was able to score on a passed ball to give UCCS what ended up being the final score, 3-0.
Stats From The Game | Game Two
  • Perez was responsible for two of the three Mountain Lions runs with a run scored and an RBI.
  • UCCS outhit the Eagles 6-to-1 in the second game, with hits coming from six different players
  • Rayburn had a dominant performance going the full seven innings and allowing just one hit.
Beyond The Box Score
  • The second game was Rayburn's first career complete game shutout.
  • This was the first double-header sweep of the season and won consecutive games for the first time this year.

  • The Mountain Lions are right back at it tomorrow with the series finale double header against Chadron State at 11a.m. and 1p.m. at Mountain Lion Field.
