HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gracie Haneborg recorded the first basket of the night from a Jeffcoat assist.  Agar Farres followed with a three-pointer to give the Mountain Lions a 5-2 lead.  The Roadrunners answered with an 8-2 run to take a 10-7 lead after Morgan Griego sunk a three-pointer at 6:35 in the first quarter.
  • Trailing by three with two minutes left in the opening stanza, Bo Shaffer took advantage of a MSU Denver turnover and scored her first points of the game to bring UCCS within one, 12-11.  After two made free throws by the Roadrunners, Haneborg drained her first triple of the game to knot the game at 14-14 with 1:37 left.  MSU Denver had the last say in the quarter, scoring the final five points to take a 19-14 lead after 10 minutes of action.
  • The second quarter started out slow as both teams combined to miss the first seven field goal attempts and turned the ball over five times in the first three minutes before MSU Denver broke the scoring drought with a layup at 6:58 to boost their lead to seven, 21-14.
  • After the Roadrunners' Jaela Richardson made back-to-back baskets for the home team for a 23-16 lead, the Mountain Lions clawed back into the game.  Jeffcoat sparked the run scoring four straight points followed by two made free throws from Haneborg that brought the Mountain Lions within one point of the Roadrunners, 23-22.  MSU Denver stopped UCCS' 7-0 run with two free throws, but UCCS kept the momentum going as Haneborg hit the second of two free throws and then notched a steal and took it to the hoop to tie the game at 25-25.  Shelby Megyeri sank two free throws with five seconds left in the half as UCCS went into the locker room with a 27-25 lead and a 5-0 run.
  • MSU Denver turned the ball over on their first possession of the second half that led to a turnaround jumper from Sophie Abela to cap off the Mountain Lions longest scoring run of the night, 7-0.  UCCS strung together another 7-0 run late in the third quarter and snagged a nine-point lead.  Haneborg and White combined for all seven points in the run as Habeborg went 4-for-4 from the free throw line during the scoring spurt, giving UCCS their largest lead of the game, 48-39.
  • Two made free throws by Jeffcoat to start the fourth quarter gave the Mountain Lions a 50-45 advantage.  UCCS was able to fend off the Roadrunners who threatened the Mountain Lions lead and came within two points of UCCS, 54-52, with 6:18 left in the game.  Both Abela and Shelby Megyeri sank both of their free throw attempts as Shaffer added a three-pointer to help UCCS grow their lead back to nine, 61-52 halfway through the final quarter.
  • The home team was far from done on their senior night as Allie Navarette, Alex Carlton and Morgan Griego each scored four points to lead MSU Denver in a 12-0 run during the course of three minutes and retake the lead, 64-61, with 53 ticks left on the clock.
  • Ellie Moore propelled the Mountain Lions to regain the lead as she scored five straight points.  Moore hit a layup and drew a foul but after missing the and-one free throw, the Mountain Lions got the offensive rebound and called a 30-second timeout.  Coming out of the timeout, Moore again hit a layup and drew a foul, this time converting the free throw to give UCCS a 66-64 lead.  With four seconds remaining, the Mountain Lions drew a foul but were also called for a technical foul, sending both teams to the line to attempt two free throws.  The Mountain Lions missed both free throw attempts while the Roadrunners' Carlton sank both of hers to tie the game and send it to overtime, 66-66.
  • In the extra period, Abela and Jeffcoat netted the first four points for a quick 70-66 UCCS lead.  Haneborg answered a Roadrunners basket to give the four-point lead back to UCCS, 72-68, but a basket from downtown and an old-fashioned three-point play by the Roadrunners turned into a six-point swing and a 74-72 lead for MSU Denver.
  • Haneborg scooped up an offensive rebound and put it back for two before Abela hit a jumper with 1:29 left and a 76-74 UCCS lead.  With 36 seconds left in the first overtime period, Carlton was clutch again for the Roadrunners as she made two free throws to knot the game at 78.  After a UCCS timeout, Jeffcoat drew a foul with 22 seconds left, draining both attempts to give UCCS an 80-78 lead.  Jeffcoat sealed the win for the Mountain Lions when she secured a defensive rebound and drew an over-the-back foul, sending her to the line where she hit both free throws to give UCCS the 82-78 lead and the win.
