Mountain Lions Stampede Cowgirls, 86-42

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team dictated the pace from the jump and never took their foot off the gas, as they dominated with a monster 86-42 victory over the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls Tuesday evening at Gallogly Events Center.

All-Time Series: This was the 50th meeting all-time between the Mountain Lions and Eagles. UCCS tied the all-time series 25-25, winning their 11th straight against NMHU.


HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter was all Mountain Lions. They got out to run early and often as they scored nine points on the fast break. The team defense was dominant forcing 10 turnovers in the quarter compared to just three giveaways. Gracie Haneborg and Shelby Megyeri got out to quick starts, both putting up seven points in the frame. UCCS had a dominant 29-9 lead at the end of the first.
  • It was more of the same in the second quarter as UCCS continued to control the game on both ends of the floor. Megyeri kept the strong shooting performance going with five more points to get her to a game-high 12 points at the half. Maison White put her stamp on the game putting up seven points and collecting three offensive rebounds to help UCCS grow their halftime lead to 46-16.  
  • The dominance continued in the third quarter. UCCS dominated the quarter allowing just five points by New Mexico Highlands. They won the quarter 16-5 thanks to a group scoring effort led by Jasmine Jeffcoat with four points and went into the final frame with a 62-21 score.
  • The floodgates opened for both teams in the fourth quarter as the teams combined for 45 points. Talia Depetrillo, Emily Doolittle, and McClain Walker logged extended minutes and it paid off as they combined for 16 of the Mountain Lions 24 points in the quarter.
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Megyeri led all scorers in the game with 12 points.
  • Alexa Dominguez was the key distributor dishing out a game high seven assists.
  • UCCS out-rebounded NMHU 51-31.
  • UCCS shot 43.4 percent from the field while NMHU shot 29.4 percent.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Walker tied the single-game high in three-pointers made with three.
  • For the first time this season, every player active for the game scored.
  • The 44-point margin of victory is tied for fifth largest in program history
  • With the win, UCCS extends their season-long winning streak to 4 games, which is the first time the team has had a four-game winning streak since the end of the 2019-20 season.

  • UCCS will wrap up the regular season at home on Thursday against South Dakota School of Mines.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
