COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team collected their first win of the season Wednesday night, 72-60, led by forward
Maison White's career night. UCCS was in control the whole game over the University of Alaska Fairbanks, leading the game for 38 consecutive minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS had the lead early despite both teams starting the game slow. It was 6-5 until Maison White and Jessica Nation hit back-to-back jump shots on consecutive possessions putting the Mountain Lions up 10-5 with 3:16 to go in the first quarter. The Nanooks responded going on a 10-6 run to close out the quarter, making 5-of-5 from the field in that stretch.
- The Mountain Lions began to create separation from UAF, going on an 8-2 run in a six-minute stretch. The Mountain Lions struggled shooting in the run (3-of-13) but with focused defense, UCCS forced the Nanooks to commit four turnovers in that time frame. After a few traded baskets to end the half, UCCS led 26-22.
- UCCS and White started the second half hot, scoring baskets off assists from Sophie Abela and Agar Farres. The Mountain Lion's got their lead up to 19 after Talia DePetrillo collected a steal and scored herself on a fast break making the score 51-32 with 50 seconds to go in the third quarter. The third quarter was capped off by a buzzer beating turnaround jump shot from White, resulting in the Mountain Lions 19-point lead with 10 minutes to go.
- UCCS was in clear control of the game to start the fourth quarter, leading by a game high 22 at the 6:02 mark. UAF then fought back hard going on a 17-6 run and with 3:37 to go in the game, the Mountain Lions lead was cut to just 11. UCCS remained calm and held on to win the game 72-60, collecting their first victory of the season.
GAME STATISTICS
- Maison White led UCCS in scoring with 22 points, shooting an efficient 11-of-14 from the field, also adding 11 rebounds and collecting her first double-double of her career.
- UCCS won the turnover battle, only allowing 11 and forcing UAF to have 24 turnovers.
- Both teams were cold from three-point range, with UAF shooting 1-of-12 (eight percent) from three and UCCS shooting 0-of-11 (0 percent) from three.
- UCCS won the points from turnover battle (23-8), dominated the points in the paint (58-34), fast break opportunities (22-13), and bench points (31-7).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Mountain Lions were able to play a lot of their team tonight, with 15 players collecting minutes in the game.
- Agar Farres collected three assists tonight, giving her 50 total in her career.
- In a career night for the forward, White collected a career high in blocks in tonight's contest with four and a career high in field goals made with 11.
- Abela collected a career high in rebounds with seven.
- Ines Latapia also recorded a career high in field goals made with four made baskets.
