COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – On Tuesday morning, the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) announced their 2022 Men's Soccer All-Region teams with the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team garnering a total of four selections, headlined by senior forward
Kolby Raineri who was named to the First Team for the South Central region. Joining Raineri as members of the All-South Central Region Second Team are junior goalkeeper Declan Domyan, graduate forward Marvin Putu, and freshman defender Matteo Moreno Madrid.
The Mountain Lion's four All-Region selections were surpassed by just one team in the region as St. Mary's University led the way with six All-Region honorees, including four on the first team and two on the second team. Colorado School of Mines' graduate midfielder Tristan Semelsberger was named the 2022 South Central Region Player of the Year after finishing the season with 30 points off 14 goals and two assists in 1,485 minutes on the pitch for the Orediggers.
The D2CCA All-South Central Region Teams and Regional Player of the Year were nominated and voted on by the Sports Information Directors from the Lone Star Conference (LSC) and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
After earning a spot on the all-region second team a season ago, fourth-year Mountain Lion
Kolby Raineri makes the leap as a member of the D2CCA All-South Central Region First Team for the 2022 season. Also a 2022 All-RMAC First Team honoree, Raineri put together a stellar season for the Mountain Lions as he started 19 of the team's 20 games and went on to tie for the RMAC lead with a career-best 30 points and eight assists. In over 1,400 minutes on the pitch, the Ankeny, Iowa native also notched a career-high 11 goals to rank fourth in the conference and led the league with his 71 shots and 31 shots on goal. A two-time RMAC Offensive Player of the Week recipient for the 2022 season (Sept. 20, Oct. 4), Raineri finishes the year having broken into the top-ten in program history with 59 career points (T6th), 22 career goals (T8th), 15 career assists (4th), 158 career shots (6th), and 79 career shots on goal (4th).
A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, Declan Domyan earns Second Team All-South Central honors after posting one of the most dominant seasons in program history for a UCCS goalkeeper. In 19 starts and over 1,660 minutes between the sticks, Domyan allowed just 11 total goals for a miniscule 0.569 Goals Against Average (GAA) that ranked as the best single-season mark in UCCS history and the fifth-best mark all-time in RMAC history. In addition to his impressive GAA that currently ranks as the seventh-best in the nation, the 6-foot-1 keeper notched 68 saves in 79 chances on net for a stellar .861 save percentage that leads the conference and ranks third in the country. Domyan's efforts in frame led to seven individual clean sheets for the season, which places him in a tie for the third most in a single season and fifth most all-time in UCCS history in addition to tying him for the 19
th most shutouts in all of Division II for the season. Domyan concludes his first season in the black and gold as the all-time GAA leader in program history among qualified goalkeepers with at least 1,000 minutes of action.
In his first season with UCCS after spending the past four years at Montana State University Billings, forward Marvin Putu lands Second Team All-South Central honors for his efforts as one of the centerpieces of the Mountain Lion's potent offense in 2022. An All-RMAC First Team selection, Putu wasted little time establishing himself as one of the top offensive weapons in the conference as he tallied the fifth-most points in the league with 20 while tying for the fifth-most goals (7) and assists (6). Putu also displayed an ability to find the net in clutch spots as he recorded a team-leading four game-winning goals, two of which coming in the final ten minutes of action in wins over Colorado Christian University on Sept. 18 and Adams State University on Oct. 6. The lone UCCS player this season to start each of the team's 20 games, Putu also ends the year with 18 shots on goal in 35 shot attempts to lead all qualified Mountain Lions with a .514 SOG%.
Defender Matteo Moreno Madrid rounds out the Mountain Lion's four All-Region selections with a nod to the All-South Central Region Second Team after serving as a key member of UCCS' stout defensive unit. The lone freshman to be named to the All-Region team, Moreno Madrid made 19 starts for the Mountain Lions this season as he helped the defense record the lowest team GAA in program history at 0.65. In 1,486 minutes on the pitch, the RMAC Co-Freshman of the Year contributed to the team's nine total shutouts while also helping the defensive unit limit opponents to just 9.8 shots and 4.35 shots on goal per game. The native of Brussels, Belgium, also often found himself involved on the offensive side of the ball as he tallied one assist for one point and fired off 19 total shots with six of them being on frame.
Each student-athlete voted to the All-Region First Team will now move on to the D2CCA All-America Ballot which will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. (MT).
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
