HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a dominant first quarter for the Mountain Lions as they shot 61 percent from the field. An intent to score inside and drive to the basket led to 12 of their 18 points in the paint, which fueled a 13-to-3 run for over five minutes of the quarter. The run led to an 18-to-12 score at the end of the period.
- Both teams struggled from the field in the second quarter. The effect of good defense got both teams to shoot below 30 percent in the quarter. Still, UCCS won the quarter 10-to-4. UCCS had a balanced attack in the quarter with five players contributing to growing their 28-to-16 halftime lead.
- The script was flipped in the third quarter as shots started to fall and the defensive pressure turned up for the Roadrunners. They opened the half with a 6-to-0 run that gave MSUD all the momentum. Ellie Moore put a strong effort on the boards three of her six rebounds in the quarter. The Mountain Lion lead was cut to 33-to-30 at the end of the quarter.
- The floodgates opened for the Roadrunners in the fourth quarter, as they opened the frame with a 9-to-2 run and put up 24 points in the quarter. UCCS turned the ball over seven times which was too much for them to overcome in this game.
