UCCS Comes up Short Against Texas A&M Commerce, 4-3

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sunday's game came out to be an offensive heavy matchup as No. 18 University of Colorado Springs comes up short 4-3 to Texas A&M University-Commerce inside Mountain Lion Stadium.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: No. 18 UCCS 3, TAMUC 4
Records: UCCS (1-1, 0-0 RMAC), TAMUC (1-1, 0-0 LSC)
Location: Mountain Lion Stadium | Colorado Springs, Colo.
Series: UCCS trails the all-time series against Texas A&M Commerce 1-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• It was a back and forth game with the Mountain Lions jumping out on top early in the 7th minute as the combo of Tori Maydew to Tarah Patterson gave UCCS the first lead of the game, 1-0.
• Texas A&M Commerce came back in the 36th minute to tie the game up 1-1 as a free kick from the 20-yard line took a hard bounce in the goal box to clear the outstretch arms of Alexis Walker to even up the game.
• Not even a minute later the Mountain Lions jumped ahead once again as freshman Sydney Lasater connected with redshirt freshman Makayla Merlo off a free kick that Merlo headed in for the 2-1 lead in the 36th minute.
• In the second half, the Lions started off fast as they forced two shots and came away with a corner kick in the 49th minute that resulted in a set piece and tie game at 2-2.
• Texas A&M Commerce kept the momentum on their side with the offense coming through with their second score of the half and first lead of the game. An attempted clear attempt on the left side of the box from Walker was stopped by the Lions' Karalie Morrison as the deflection redirected in front of goal for a quick tap in and 3-2 score in favor of Texas A&M Commerce in the 53rd minute.
• UCCS fired off three consecutive shots a few minutes later to try and even things up but the Lions backline kept the Mountain Lions out of net to hold the 3-2 lead.
• UCCS came charging back in 60th minute as Patterson scored her third point of the match with a quick pass to redshirt freshman Kelsey Takahashi who squeaked a shot past the diving goalkeeper for the equalizer, 3-3.
• With the match all evened up, Texas A&M Commerce would jump ahead and hold onto the lead in the 81st minute as an own goal from UCCS resulted in the 4-3 final score. A Lions' shot was blocked towards the right side of the frame as a diving Chloe DeShazer resulted in an open left side of net that the Mountain Lions attempted to close off, but a tipped shot that redirected inside the left post slowly rolled in for the last score of the game.
