HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After a tightly contested start to the match, UCCS got on the board first in the 35th minute when Tarah Patterson floated a long pass from midfield to a streaking Jadyn LeDoux who punched the ball into the bottom left of the net to put the Mountain Lions up 1-0.
  • Offensively, the Mountain Lions put up 11 shots and five shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes, while the defense impressively held the Skyhawks without a shot on goal and limited them to just two total shots in the half.
  • UCCS would extend their advantage to 2-0 just two minutes into the second half, as Makayla Merlo pushed a touch pass in the direction of Patterson, who fired from the right corner of the penalty box into the upper left portion of the net for her fourth goal of the season.
  • The Mountain Lion's offensive attack would continue in the 70th minute as they pushed the lead to 3-0 when forward Kaitlin Hinkle took a pass from Bri Johnson for the score.
  • Less than 15 seconds later, Fort Lewis forward Skylar Burnes pushed a shot off the hands of diving UCCS goalkeeper Chloe Deshazer. Skyhawks midfielder Ariel Lopez capitalized on the deflection for a wide open shot to cut the lead to 3-1.
  • Freshman Fie Steenberg would put the game away in the 84th minute when she hooked a shot into the left corner of the net to push the lead to 4-1
