COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Redshirt-junior
Lauryn Shockley notched a double-double Saturday night behind a team high 16 kills and 15 digs, but the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team fell short to Colorado Christian University, 3-2, inside Gallogly Events Center. Shockley's 15 digs were the most on the team and second most in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS never trailed in the opening set. After taking a 3-0 lead to open the set, the Cougars tied the set five times but UCCS maintained the lead or a tie to take control of the set. Leading 24-17, the Cougars forced four straight attack errors to come within three points, 24-21, but Lauryn Shockley put the game away after Emily Ettel set her up with the winning attack.
- The second set went to extra points with the Cougars coming out on top, 30-28. CCU served set point, 24-23, but served an error to knot the set at 24-24. Hannah Ammerman gave UCCS a 25-24 lead with a service ace before Lilly Woods of CCU tied the set with a kill. Six plays later Ettel put down a kill to even the set at 28-all, but two straight attack errors by UCCS ended the set in favor of CCU, 30-28.
- The third set featured seven lead changes and the scored tied 12 times as UCCS gained a 2-1 advantage in the match after earning a 25-22 win. Halfway through the set UCCS went on a 7-2 run to take a 15-10 lead after forcing the Cougars to commit four attack errors and a service error. Ettel and Ammerman combined on a block assist on CCU's attack to give the Mountain Lions a 23-22 lead. Jordyn Kinsey closed the set with a service ace followed by Shockley's second kill of the set for a 25-22 UCCS win.
- The Cougars controlled the fourth set to post a 25-22 win. Ettel posted a block on CCU's Lilly Woods for a 15-14 UCCS lead, but two straight kills by the Cougars gave them a 16-15 lead as they held off the Mountain Lions to knot the match at 2-2.
- CCU kept the momentum going in the fifth set as the Mountain Lions were unable to secure a lead at any point. CCU posted nine kills and one attack error to edge UCCS offensively for the deciding set win.
MATCH STATISTICS
- Behind Shockley's team high 16 kills, Maren Burkhardt chipped in 11 kills and hit .417.
- Ettel accounted for 51 of UCCS' 54 assists and added 10 digs and four blocks (three block assists). Ammerman finished the night with eight kills, three aces, five digs and three blocks. Kinsey served a match high four aces and added eight digs.
- As a team, the Mountain Lions hit .199 with 58 kills. Both teams finished the night with eight blocks.
- CCU's Libby Goodman and Breanna Allen tallied 21 kills each.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Tonight's opening set win snapped a 12-set losing streak for UCCS.
- The 30-28 score in the second set was the eighth time this season UCCS has gone to extra points.
