HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set featured six lead changes and the score tied 12 times.  The Roadrunners committed four service errors in the opening set, including one late in the set to tie the game at 21-21.  After a setting error by UCCS gave MSU Denver a 22-21 lead, Camden Strain tied the match for the 12th time off a kill from Emily Ettel's set assist.  Another ball handling error by UCCS gave the Roadrunners a one-point advantage, 23-22, as they closed the opening set with back-to-back aces.
  • The Mountain Lions never led in the second set but used a four-point run behind kills from Grace Ferguson, Ettel and Lauryn Shockley and forced MSUD into an attack error to get within one point, 17-16.  The Roadrunners chipped away at the lead to win by three, 25-22.
  • In the final set, the Mountain Lions were held to a match low nine kills.  UCCS held a 7-5 lead early in the set but a 5-1 run gave the Roadrunners a 10-8 lead.  A duo block from Hannah Ammerman and Julia Geiger knotted the match at 10-10, but a service error on the following serve gave MSUD a lead they would not relinquish.
