No. 6 UCCS Dominates WCU 4-0 in RMAC Opener

GUNNISON, Colo. –  It was a dominant performance by No. 6 UCCS Women's Soccer on Thursday afternoon as the Mountain Lions topple the Western Colorado University Mountaineers, 4-0.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: #6 UCCS 4, WCU 0
Records: #6 UCCS (6-1, 1-0 RMAC), WCU (3-3, 0-1 RMAC)
Location: Kato O. Rady Field | Gunnison, Colo.
Series: UCCS leads the all-time series 10-2 and extends their winning streak against the Mountaineers to seven games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Mountain Lions buried their quickest score of the season by netting their first goal of the game at 3:27 with captain Ella Fischer bending a shot inside the far post for an unassisted goal and 1-0 UCCS lead.
In the 13th minute, it was midfielder Katie Puchino who came up and joined in on the scoring as a set piece was gathered by freshman Jadyn LeDoux who took her chance on a no-look shot that Puchino collected in front of net to fire in for the 2-0 lead.
 • WCU had no answer for UCCS' staggering defense as the Mountain Lions completely shutout the Mountaineers in the first half, not allowing a single shot and maintaining the 2-0 lead into halftime.
• The second half was no different for the Mountain Lions as the number six team in the country went after the Mountaineers with a third goal in the 60th minute. After Tori Maydew attempted to get a shot off in the left side of the box, a diving goalkeeper left the net clear as Maydew found LeDoux on a shallow pass that the Colorado Springs native chipped in for the 3-0 advantage.
• UCCS continued to pressure the WCU backline and forced the Mountaineers defense to fold once again in the 74th minute. For her first score of the season, redshirt junior Amelia Junge received a center from Bri Johnson to score on a strike that breezed past the keeper for the 4-0 final.
