HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the opening set, both teams battled back and forth in the first round of action.  UCCS trailed 3-1 to begin the set but two straight attack errors by Regis knotted the set at 3-3.  Halfway through the set, UCCS was down four (10-6) and went on a 5-2 run sparked by Julia Geiger's back-to-back kills.  Hannah Ammerman put down a kill to bring UCCS within one point of RU, 12-11, but a 9-3 run by the Rangers rolled the visiting team to a 25-20 win to take set one.
  • Set two nearly mirrored the opening set.  UCCS snagged an early 3-2 lead from a Ferguson kill, but a 6-1 run put the set in the hands of Regis as they forced the Mountain Lions into 11 attacking errors.  The Rangers kept UCCS at arm's length and led by as many as nine to take set two, 25-16.
  • In set three, the Mountain Lions grabbed their largest lead of the night, 7-5, from Ferguson's third kill of the match.  Regis responded with a 7-0 run to take a 12-7 lead they would not relinquish to win the set, 25-14, and the match.
