HOW IT HAPPENED:

• In the 19th minute, the UCCS attack broke through for the first goal of the game as the redshirt freshman duo of Makenna Fowler and Makayla Merlo found the back of the net for a 1-0 UCCS lead. Fowler notched her first assist on the season by connecting with Merlo on an outside cross that Merlo headed inside the right post for the score.
• The shots kept pouring in from the Mountain Lions as they continued to fire off seven more shots including three shots on goal before freshman Fie Steenberg found her first goal of the year off a right-foot distance strike to extend the UCCS lead 2-0 in the 43rd minute.
• Texas A&M Commerce failed to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes as the Mountain Lion defense kept the Lions at bay by holding them to four first half shots to maintain the 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
• In the second half, Texas A&M Commerce went on offense to cut the deficit in half as the Lions registered five shots before Leslie Campuzano put TAMUC on the board, 2-1, in the 65th minute.
• With a one goal lead and 25 minutes left, the Mountain Lions held Texas A&M Commerce to two shots as Chloe DeShazer came through with a save in the 73rd minute to keep the lead in tacked.
• Later in the match at the 87th minute, Merlo put the game away in fashion as she fired a right-foot shot from 25-yards out into the top left corner of net for a brace, and the 3-1 final.
