COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team snapped an eight-game winning streak against Colorado State University Pueblo as the ThunderWolves won both games today at Mountain Lion Field, handing UCCS two losses (10-8, 9-7).

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
- Sawyer Brewster started the series opener with a boom, going yard for a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning to score Solana Martinez, Brianna Santos and Mia Perez. The grand slam was Brewster's seventh home run of the season.
- The ThunderWolves hit their first of three home runs in the top of the second inning as Oakleigh Kearby hit a single shot to cut into UCCS' lead, 4-1.
- A two-run home run by the ThunderWolves in the third inning shrunk the Mountain Lions lead down to one run, 4-3. UCCS responded in the bottom half of the fourth inning. After the first two batters struck out, Perez singled through the left side to reach base. She was brought home when the next batter, Santos, doubled to left center. Following Santos' double, Martinez stepped to the plate for the Mountain Lions second home run of the game and her 10th of the season, boosting UCCS's lead to 7-3 after four complete innings.
- The Mountain Lions lost their four-run lead in the fifth inning when CSUP crossed home plate five times. The ThunderWolves score five runs on two hits as one of the hits was a grand slam.
- Trailing 8-7 in the bottom half of the fifth inning, Taylor White hit her third home run of the season to knot the game at 8-8 after five innings.
- Heading into the final inning of the series opener, the Pack plated two runs on four hits, two of which were doubles to take their first lead of the game 10-8. The Mountain Lions went down one-two-three to close the game.
STATS FROM GAME 1
- Both teams each hit three home runs, including grand slams for both squads.
- UCCS and CSUP combined for 23 hits and 18 runs.
- The Mountain Lions finished with 11 hits as Brewster led the offense after going 2-for-4 with four runs batted in and one run scored. Santos added two hits and scored twice while driving in one run.
- Cami Duffey started in the circle, pitching the first two and one-third innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits. Gabrielle Cronin relieved Duffey in the third inning before Lexi Rayburn closed the game, pitching the final three innings and surrendering two earned runs on four hits while striking out three batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
- In game two, both teams went scoreless in the first three innings as pitcher Braelyne Crenshaw and the Mountain Lions defense held CSUP to one hit.
- The Pack scored the first runs of the game in the fourth inning, plating two runs on three hits. CSUP built on their lead in the fifth inning with three more runs to take a 5-0 lead.
- The Mountain Lions stormed back in the bottom half of the fifth inning. UCCS loaded the bases as the first three batters in the inning – Morgan Hernandez-Belew, Perez and Santos each tallied a hit to load the bases. For the second time today, the Mountain Lions hit a grand slam as Martinez notched her 11th home run of the season, tying Santos for the most home runs on the team. Later in the inning, Cambria Jeffers entered the game as a pinch hitter and went yard to score Meghan Waidler and give UCCS a 6-5 lead.
- The lead did not last long as the ThunderWolves plated four runs in the sixth inning to regain the lead, 9-6.
- In the bottom of the sixth with one out and Perez on second base, Martinez doubled to right field to bring home Perez. With two outs and Martinez on second base, Waidler drew a walk before pinch hitter Payton Romines singled up the middle to load the bases. The Mountain Lions chances of adding more runs ended with a strike out.
- UCCS held the ThunderWolves to one hit in the final inning and no runs. The Mountain Lions were able to put two runners on base in the seventh inning, but a force out at third base for the final out sealed the win for the Pack.
STATS FROM GAME 2
- Five of the Mountain Lions 10 hits were extra base hits. Martinez, Saleen Quinonez and Hernandez-Belew each posted a double while Martinez and Jeffers hit one over the outfield fence.
- Martinez finished with three hits, five RBI and one run scored.
- Crenshaw pitched a complete game, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits while striking out six batters.
- In the two games played today, both teams combined for 18 extra-base hits (10 doubles, eight home runs).
UP NEXT
- The Mountain Lions will conclude the regular season at home tomorrow with the final two games of the series against CSU Pueblo beginning at 11 a.m.
