Santos Knocks Out Three Home Runs to Lead Mountain Lions to Victory in Game One

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball started Senior Day with a win against the Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderWolves, 8-4, with Brianna Santos hitting three home runs to assure the win.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP

Records: UCCS (17-25, 16-22 RMAC), CSUP (21-17, 18-16 RMAC)
Location: Mountain Lion Field | Colorado Springs, Colo.
All-Time Series: UCCS leads the series with 19 wins and just 13 losses. 

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
  • The Mountain Lions came out swinging with Brianna Santos and Solana Martinez hitting back-to-back home runs.
  • Defense was efficient in the top of the second inning taking down the Thunderwolves three up, three down.
  • Mia Perez hit a double out to left center brining in Morgan Hernandez-Belew and Saleen Quinonez, quickly advancing their lead 4-0.
  • In the bottom of the third Martinez started UCCS off getting walked and Payton Romines bunting a advancing Martinez to second.  Taylor White hit a high foul out to left field, with the sacrifice fly she was able to bring Martinez home.
  • Top of the fourth CSUP was able to get on the scoreboard, with two runners on base Sabrina Felix was able to hit a line drive down right field to bring in Isabel Griego.
  • The Thunderwolves scored two more times in the top of the fourth taking advantage of a fielding error.
  • The Mountain Lions made up for it in the bottom of the fourth with Perez hitting a single and Santos hitting her second home run for the game to bring in another two runs.
  • CSUP responded in the top of the fifth with two runners getting on base back-to-back and Marissa Piatt hitting a double down the left field line to bring in a run.
  • Santos would hit her third home run in the bottom of the sixth and Mountain Lions defense finished the game 8-4. 
STATS FROM GAME ONE
  •  Braelyne Crenshaw pitched a complete game facing 28 batters and throwing 97 pitches.  Crenshaw only allowed seven hits and three of the four runs earned.
  • Santos had four at bats and had three home runs with four RBIs and three putouts.
  • Mia Perez had one run and two RBIs for the game.
  • Shae Bushey totaled 13 putouts.
  • Saleen Quinonez had one run off one hit, with three putouts, and four assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
  • UCCS had the first runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning.  Meghan Waidler hit a double to the left side brining in Solana Martinez and Brianna Santos.
  • CSUP was able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning with Emma Flynn getting on base and Isabella Griego hitting a sacrifice fly to bring her in.
  • The Mountain Lions responded in the bottom of the third with Martinez hitting a double to right field bringing in Santos.
  • The UCCS defense struggled to get the third out in the top of the fifth inning with the ThunderWolves brining in five runs to take the lead and win the second game of the day.
STATS FROM GAME TWO
  • In her final game at home, Cami Duffey pitched four innings and was the recording pitcher for the game.  Duffey faced 23 batters and threw 97 pitches.
  • Waidler had two hits off three at bats and tallied two RBIs.
  • Shae Bushey added eight putouts to her stats with one assist.
  • Brianna Santos had two hits off four at bats and totaled two runs.
  • Martinez had one run on two hits and one RBI.

This concludes The Mountain Lions' regular 2021 season.  The RMAC softball tournament begins May 13th.
