UCCS Closes Out the Weekend Going 1-1 against FLC

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team started the day with a 2-1 win and brought that momentum into their second game, but the Fort Lewis Skyhawks went off in the top of the sixth inning to pull out the series finale win, 14-3.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP

Records: UCCS (13-13, 12-10 RMAC), FLC (6-14, 6-10 RMAC)

All-Time Series: UCCS leads the all-time series, 26-7. 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
  • Solana Martinez got the Mountain Lions started in the first inning hitting a double to left center where Sawyer Brewster sent a single up the middle to send Martinez home for the first run of the game.
  • Courtney Huff tried to start the Skyhawks in the top of the third inning with a walk, but Kylie Hefley's line drive to second base resulted in a double play by Saleen Quinonez and Peyton Reisman.
  • In the bottom of the third Brianna Santos cushioned UCCS's lead with a home run, hitting her ninth of the season.
  • From there the innings went by quickly with the Skyhawks getting their first run at the top of the seventh inning with a homerun hit by Brianna Leavell.
  • The Mountain Lions defense held the rest of the hitters at bay for the 2-1 victory.
 
STATS FROM GAME ONE
 
  • Cami Duffey pitched a full seven innings and with 24 batters faced, she allowed just three hits and one earned run.
  • Brianna Santos tallied her ninth homerun of the season and one RBI for the game.
  • Martinez led the team in assists with six.
  • Brewster followed Martinez in assists totaling four and getting the only other RBI of the game.
  • Reisman added 13 more putouts to her stats.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
  • The Mountain Lions got game two started in the bottom of the third with Taylor White hitting a single. 
  • Taylor Humphries came into pinch run for White and Mia Perez took the sac bunt to advance Humphries to second.
  • Brianna Santos crushed a ball to left field bringing in Humphries for the first run of the game.
  • UCCS advanced their lead in the bottom of the fourth with Solana Martinez getting on base and Peyton Reisman slugging a homerun into left field.
  • In the top of the sixth inning the Skyhawks took off, hitting five home runs and a grand slam to bring in 14 runs from 10 hits in the inning.

STATS FROM GAME TWO
  • Cami Duffey came in at the beginning of the sixth inning to relieve Gabby Cronin. Duffey threw 17 pitches and had three hits against her.
  • Braelyne Crenshaw and Solana Martinez had the only assists of the game with two and one, respectively.
  • Reisman led the team with five putouts and two RBIs.
  • White had four putouts and one hit off two at bats.
  • Santos closed the game with two put outs, one RBI, and one hit.
  • UCCS tallied seven hits in the series finale as seven Mountain Lions each recorded one hit
 
UP NEXT
The Mountain Lions are back at Mountain Lion Field next weekend, April 10-11, to host MSU Denver.  Saturday's games will start at 12 pm and 2 pm and Sunday's games will begin at 11 am and 1 pm.
