Mountain Lions Swept in Opening Games Against the Roadrunners

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado softball team was unable to stop Metropolitan State University of Denver's dominating offense in the first two games of the four-game series.

All-Time Series: UCCS trails the all-time series with 12 wins and 15 losses.  

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
  • Roadrunners kicked the game off in the first inning with the first two batters getting on base.  Oliva Dampier scored the first run.  Megan Sansburn scored the second off a fielding error.
  • The Mountain Lions answered in the bottom with Brianna Santos getting on base, Saleen Quinonez advanced Santos with a sac bunt and Solana Martinez brought it home with a home run.
  • MSU Denver kept the heat up in the top of the second with Mackenzie Jamison hitting a double to left center to bring in three more runs.  Haley Doughty followed Jameison hitting a single to left center, but the Roadrunners were able to take advantage of another fielding error brining in another run.
  • The Roadrunners defense held strong holding off the Mountain Lions for the third and fourth innings.
  • MSU Denver hit two home runs in the top of the fourth inning, bringing in five runs.
  • UCCS tried to stay in the game in the bottom of the fifth connecting the bat four times and taking advantage of two fielding errors from the Roadrunners to bring in another three more runs.
 
STATS FROM GAME ONE  
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
  • MSU Denver started game two with commanding defense in the first inning and got their offense started in the top of the second with Haley Doughty hitting a line drive by the pitcher.
  • Kassi Reiger hit a single to second advancing two runners and bringing Doughty home to score the first run of the game.
  • The Roadrunners kept the heat up in the top of the third with Rebecca Gonzalez crushing the ball for a home run to center field.
  • UCCS was unable to make contact with the ball until the bottom of the fourth inning with Solana Martinez hitting a single to right field and Meghan Waidler making contact to advance Martinez to second. MSU Denver's defense was on top of it though and held the runners on base.
  • The fifth inning started with Olivia Dampier hitting a double to left field and Megan Sansburn singling to short stop, advancing Dampier to third.
  • Shelby Robb tallied an RBI to bring Dampier in for the first run of the inning.
  • Mackenzie Jamieson hit a line to center field bringing in two more runs.
  • The Roadrunners scored three more times in the fifth inning and held the Mountain Lions to no runs.
 
STATS FROM GAME TWO
  • Gabrielle Cronin came in to pitch at the top of the fifth inning and was the pitcher of record.  Cronin faced four batters with 23 pitches and allowed two hits.
  • The team totaled seven assists with Saleen Quinonez and Solana Martinez combining six.
  • Martinez had two of the teams three hits for the game.
  • Peyton Reisman led the team with seven put outs for game two.

The third and fourth games of the series will be played tomorrow, Sunday April 11, with game one starting at 11 am.
