LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team won their series opener at New Mexico Highlands University Saturday afternoon, 6-2, but fell in game two of the four-game series, 6-3.

All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions lead the all-time series against the Cowgirls, 21-8. UCCS has won four of the last six games.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
- UCCS scored four of their six runs in the first two innings of action. Meghan Waidler stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and one out when she singled up the middle to score Mia Perez for the first run of the game.
- In the top of the second inning, the Mountain Lions added two more runs to extend their lead to 4-0. With two outs, the third batter of the inning, Mia Perez, drew a walk before reaching third base on Brianna Santos' single. Perez then scored for the Mountain Lions after a throwing error to first base. Waidler added her third RBI of the game, driving the ball to left center field to score Solana Martinez and Brianna Santos.
- Both of the Cowgirls runs in the game came from a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.
- The Mountain Lions added two more insurance runs in the fourth inning to seal the win, 6-2. Santos started the inning off when she reached first base on a throwing error that also advanced her to second base. She scored on the same play on another throwing error by NMHU that resulted in her touching all four bases.
- Martinez plated the sixth and final run for UCCS from Taylor White's sac fly to close out the fourth inning.
STATS FROM GAME ONE
- Waidler finished game one going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI.
- Perez, Santos and Martinez accounted for all 6 runs for UCCS as they each crossed home plate twice.
- Braelyne Crenshaw earned her fourth win of the season, pitching a complete game and holding the Cowgirls to two earned runs and four hits while striking out four batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
- UCCS opened game two with two runs in the first inning of action. Perez led off the first inning with a single to left field and was quickly brought home from Santos' triple. The third batter of the game, Martinez, reached first base after an error by NMHU to score Santos and give UCCS a 2-0 lead.
- NMHU took advantage of a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning as Camrynn Ziegler scored the first run for the Cowgirls.
- Both teams went three-up, three-down in the second inning before the Mountain Lions increased their lead to 3-1 in the third inning.
- Santos tripled again for the Mountains Lions in the third inning and scored after Sawyer Brewster brought her home on a sacrifice fly.
- Leading 3-1 in the sixth inning, the home team stormed back to score five runs in the bottom half. With two outs, NMHU used three hits and a field error by the Mountain Lions to score five runs and take a 6-3 lead.
- The Mountain Lions had runners on first and second base with two outs in the seventh inning but were unable to bring in a run.
STATS FROM GAME TWO
- Santos tallied three hits on four at-bats and added an RBI and scored twice.
- Perez registered two hits and one run as she and Santos combined for all five hits and three runs for the Mountain Lions.
- Cami Duffey went the distance in the circle, fanning four batters and allowing two earned runs on five hits while facing 26 batters.
UP NEXT
- The Mountain Lions will wrap up their eight-game road trip tomorrow at New Mexico Highlands. Sunday's doubleheader will start at 11 a.m.
