HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
- Game one got off to a hot start as ASU scored one in the top of the first to take an early lead. However, UCCS answered immediately with a five run inning in the bottom half of the first thanks largely in part to a two-run home run from Jaeden Hegmann and a solo home run from Aaron Faragallah, hit back-to-back. Matt Berg would add an RBI double to make the score 5-1.
- ASU would add two more in the top of the third off two hits and one UCCS error to make it 6-3, but UCCS again answered in the bottom half of the inning with two of their own off three hits including an RBI single from freshman Matt Johnson.
- The Mountain Lions added four more in the fifth off an RBI triple from Johnson, a sacrifice fly from Berg, and a two-run home run from Walker Rumsey.
- ASU would add one in the top of the sixth, but ultimately the Mountain Lions' offense was too much and UCCS would take game one by a final of 11-4.
GAME 2
- Game two was the first pitching duel of the series as the offenses for both teams struggled to produce runs.
- After two scoreless innings from both teams, ASU again struck first with two runs in the third off a two run home run, making the score 2-0.
- UCCS answered with two of their own in the fourth inning off an RBI single from Aaron Faragallah and an RBI triple from Matt Berg, his second of the weekend.
- After a scoreless fifth, UCCS' Tyler Richardson blasted a two-run home run down the left field line to give UCCS a 4-2 lead late in the game. Matt Geoffrion came in the game to close things out and Richardson's home run proved to be the game winner as UCCS took game three by a final of 4-2, completing the Saturday sweep.
