COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Only one run separated the University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team with visiting Fort Lewis College in game one and game two of a four game series Friday afternoon at Mountain Lion Field. The Skyhawks won the series opener, 4-3, but the Mountain Lions tied the series with a 3-2 win in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
- Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings. The Mountain Lions had a chance early on to add runs to the scoreboard but left two runners in scoring position in the first inning.
- The Mountain Lions pitcher Braelyne Crenshaw and the defense behind her held the Skyhawks to only one hit and one base runner in the first four innings of action.
- Solana Martinez led off the fourth inning with a single to right field. Two batters and one out later, Sawyer Brewster brought Martinez home with her second home run of the season, giving UCCS a 2-0 lead after four innings.
- Brianna Santos added to the Mountain Lions lead with a solo home run in the bottom half of the fifth inning, her eighth dinger of the season.
- Fort Lewis started their comeback in the sixth inning. After being held to two hits through five innings, the Skyhawks hit two solo home runs from Kylie Hefley and Brianna Leavell.
- With two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, FLC's McKenna Hefley hit a hard ball to short stop to score two runs give FLC a 4-3 advantage.
- The Mountain Lions headed into the bottom of the seventh inning trailing, 4-3, but went down 1-2-3 to close the game.
STATS FROM GAME ONE
- Santos accounted for two of the Mountain Lions five hits. She went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Both of her hits were extra-base hits (double, home run).
- Brewster brought in two runs from her home run shot after going 1-for-3 at the plate.
- Peyton Reisman led the defense with 10 putouts at first base.
- Crenshaw started in the circle and pitched the first five and two-third innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out four batters. Gabrielle Cronin finished the game, surrendering two earned runs on four hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
- FLC quickly grabbed a 1-0 lead to start game two from Hefley's second home run of the series in the first half. UCCS responded right back in the bottom half of the inning when Solana Martinez went yard for the seventh time this season.
- The Mountain Lions plated two more runs in the following inning to grab a 3-1 lead. With one out and runners on second and third, Maddie Unrein singled up the middle to score Megan Waidler before Morgan Hernandez-Belew was thrown out at home.
- The ensuing batter, Saleen Quinonez, singled to short stop to reach first base and move Unrein to third. With two outs, Santos came to the plate and batted in Unrein for the eventual game-winning run.
- FLC answered with a leadoff home run to start the third inning, but the Mountain Lions kept the Skyhawks in check the remainder of the game, holding them to two hits in the final four innings.
STATS FROM GAME TWO
- Seven Mountain Lions combined for eight hits against FLC. Santos led the team with two hits and added one RBI.
- Santos and Hernandez-Belew each hit a double as Martinez tallied the third home run of the day for UCCS.
- Lexi Rayburn earned the win in the circle, pitching the first four innings and fanning four batters and allowing four hits.
- Cami Duffey notched the save as she entered the game in the fifth inning and held the Skyhawks to two hits and no runs.
- Brianna Leavell of FLC tallied a game high three hits.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- In both games combined, the two teams scored six runs each and posted 27 hits.
- Six of the Mountain Lions 13 hits were extra base hits behind three home runs and three doubles.
