GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
Sawyer Brewster hit a two-run home run over the left field fence Saturday afternoon in the top of the seventh inning to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team to a 4-3 win at No. 19 Colorado Mesa University. UCCS handed the Mavericks only their second setback of the season and snapped a 10-game winning streak, but CMU won the series opener, 9-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
- Brewster started game one with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. Her fourth home run this season scored Solana Martinez as UCCS was only able to plate two runs in the series opener.
- In the bottom half of the first inning, CMU took the lead after scoring three runs on two hits and two errors.
- UCCS was held to two hits and four base runners in the final six innings.
- Errors plagued the Mountain Lions as the Mavericks were able to score five of their nine runs on four UCCS errors.
STATS FROM GAME ONE
- Saleen Quinonez went 2-for-3 at the plate. Brewster and Santos each registered a hit as UCCS was held to four hits.
- Braelyne Crenshaw pitched a complete game, fanning three batters and allowing four earned runs on nine hits.
- The Mavericks Brooke Doumer went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three runs batted in.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
- In game two of the day, CMU used three hits and a UCCS error to score two runs and take a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning.
- The Mountain Lions answered in the second inning to tie the game at 2-2. Meghan Waidler led off the inning with a double and then moved to third base after Quinonez was thrown out at first base. The next batter, Peyton Reisman, hit a single to the left side to score Waidler and put the first run on the scoreboard for UCCS.
- With two outs and Reisman on first base, Mia Perez drilled a double down the left field line to bring in Reisman and knot the game.
- Pitcher Cami Duffey and the Mountain Lions defense held CMU in check at the plate, including two innings of three-and-out before the Mavericks were able to take a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning. With two outs and runners on first and second, UCCS turned a double play to end the sixth inning and hold CMU to just one run.
- The comeback started in the seventh inning when Mia Perez led off with a walk. Two outs and two batters later, Brewster hit her second home run of the day to give UCCS a 4-3 lead.
- The Mountain Lions held the Mavericks to one base runner and hitless in the bottom of the seventh to close the game earn the upset win, 4-3.
STATS FROM GAME TWO
- Five Mountain Lions recorded at least one hit with Maddie Unrein notching a game high two hits.
- Perez tallied one hit, one RBI, scored one run and drew two walks.
- Brewster drove in two runs and finished the day with four RBI.
- Cami Duffery earned her fourth win in the circle after pitching a complete game. She held CMU to nine hits and three earned runs.
- Doumer and Lauren Wedman each posted three hits for CMU.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Today's win was the Mountain Lions fifth win over CMU in the all-time series. UCCS' last win over the Mavericks was April 20, 2019, also in Grand Junction. That win snapped a 21-game winning streak by CMU.
