Lacrosse Wins Season Opener at Home over Griffins, 20-11

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team used a balanced scoring attack as eight Mountain Lions scored multiple goals in the Mountain Lions season and home opener Friday night.  UCCS defeated Westminster College, 20-11, in a non-conference match at Mountain Lion Stadium.

All-Time Series: UCCS has won the last two matchups against WC, evening the all-time series at 2-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • The Mountain Lions dominated early on, taking a 5-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of action.
  • Westminster answered and chipped away at the Mountain Lions, coming within in four goals, 8-4, with 10 minutes left in the first half.
  • UCCS took an 11-7 lead into halftime after forcing WC to commit 11 first half turnovers.
  • The Mountain Lions came out of halftime and dominated the second half.
  • UCCS outscored the Griffins, 9-4, and outshot them, 30-13, in the second half.
  • The Mountain Lions went on a 6-1 run to open the second half and closed the game scoring the final three goals.
