Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lacrosse Dominates Colorado College, 17-7

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Playing in their third straight match away from Mountain Lion Stadium, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team traveled across town to take on Colorado College Wednesday afternoon.  The Mountain Lions earned a 17-7 win to improve their record to 4-1.

All-Time Series: Wednesday was only the second meeting between the two programs. The win ties the series at 1-1 apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UCCS scored the first goal of the game from Natalie Church less than two minutes into the match and never looked back as they held the lead the entire game.
  • Aliyah Weant found Angela Naughton one minute later before Kiera Lowe gave the Mountain Lions their third straight goal of the contest for a 3-0 lead.
  • Colorado College cut into the Mountain Lions lead with 7:19 left to go in the first half when Sophie Murphy netted a goal to bring the home team within two goals of UCCS, 5-3.  The two-goal difference was the closest the Tigers would reach UCCS as the Mountain Lions closed the half scoring five unanswered goals to take a 10-3 lead at halftime.
  • After six scoreless minutes by both teams to start the second half, CC started to comeback after netting two goals within 72 seconds of each other, but Weant started a 6-2 run to end the game as the Mountain Lions notched their fourth win of the season.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Lowe scored a game high four goals while Church added a game high five points behind three goals and two assists. Lowe netted two goals in each half as Church found the back of the net three times in the first half.
  • Lowe led both teams with eight shots and a game high seven shots on goal.
  • Naughton chipped in two goals and two assists while attempting five shots and winning eight of the Mountain Lions 17 draws.
  • Audrey Napp and Morgan Miller each caused two turnovers.
  • Weant picked up a team high four ground balls and added four points (two goals, two assists). Both of her goals came from free-position attempts.
  • Goalie Kennedy Travis protected the net for all 60 minutes, making 15 saves and allowing seven goals.
  • As a team, UCCS outshot the Tigers, 50-34 and won 17 of the 26 draw controls.
  • UCCS finished with 24 ground balls and forced CC to commit 21 turnovers.
  • CC was led by Bridget Hanley's four points and five shots. 
  • Natalie Slade and Avery Newton each played a half in goal for the Tigers, making eight saves individually.
 
UP NEXT
UCCS will continue their six-game road trip on Saturday at Colorado State University Pueblo.  First draw is at 7 p.m.
