HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UCCS and WC traded shots in the beginning of the first half with the Griffins netting the first goal in the 13th minute to take the early 1-0 lead.
• Down early in the match, the Mountain Lions roared back minutes later as freshman Jack Souder buried the equalizer in the right side of the net for his first goal of the season off the double assist from Kolby Raineri and Nic Grotle.
• For the remainder of the half, both the Mountain Lions and Griffins continued to trade shots with UCCS outshooting WC 5-4 after the Souder equalizer in the 18th minute.
•  Grotle was able to land one of UCCS's five shots on goal but couldn't find the back of the net in the 31st minute as UCCS and WC entered halftime tied 1-1.
• In the second half, UCCS wasted no time with the offensive pressure as Souder got off a shot within the first 15 seconds of the half but missed high right for an early WC goal kick.
• Later in the half, the Griffins went on the attack after a free kick in the 56th minute led to a shot on goal that UCCS keeper Jake Zink saved from squeaking in the lower right corner of the goal. Zink's save put the ball back in play where the Griffins redirected into the opposite side of the net for the 2-1 lead in the 57th minute.
Zink and the Mountain Lions' backline held on for the rest of the match to keep the Griffins out of net but WC maintained the lead by not allowing a shot on goal in the second half for the final score of 2-1.
