Men’s Soccer Adds to Win Streak Against South Dakota Mines

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team had a dominating performance facing the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers, winning 5-1.

All-Time Series: UCCS has dominated the series with eight wins, no losses, and no ties.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SDSM tried to set the tone for the evening scoring the first goal within the first five minutes of play and taking the arly lead 1-0.
  • Liam McGuire and Jose Zertuche tried to get the Mountain Lions started 10 minutes into the first half as they each landed a shot on frame, but the Hardrockersl goalkeeper Tyler Ring stopped both shots.
  • Kolby Raineri scored the equalizer for UCCS right before the first half ended to give the Mountain Lions some life as Jack Souder came through with the assist.
  • The Hardrockers gained three yellow cards for the game, with the first coming 26 minutes into the first half.
  • UCCS's goalie Jake Zink proved impenetrable stopping three more shots on goal for the evening.
  • McGuire put the Mountain Lions ahead just five minutes into the second half as Alex Andersson found McGuire for his first assist of the night.
  • At just past the 68th minute Sybren Russell netted the third goal for the Mountain Lions to quickly extend their lead 3-1.
  • From there the Mountain Lions never lifted their foot off the gas pedal controlling the ball for the remainder of the game.
  • At 85 minutes into the game Alex Andersson scored the fourth goal of the evening for the Mountain Lions off a penalty kick to take control of all momentum and increase their lead 4-1.
  • Finally, Diego Ferradas closed the game with the final goal for UCCS at just under the 89th minute.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Alex Andersson had a dominating performance tonight netting one goal with two assists, tallying five of the thirteen points for the Mountain Lions.
  • McGuire led the team in shots and shots on goal with seven and three, respectively, as he tallied his first goal of the season.
  • UCCS outshot SDSM 22-6 in the match with the Mountain Lions registering nine shots on goal to the Hardrockers' three.
  • Redshirt sophomore, Jake Zink, registered his first win of the season after allowing just one goal and bagging one save.
  • Raineri scored one goal for the evening one shot on goal and two shots in the match.
  • Ferradas recorded a total four shots and two shots on goal with one finding the back of the net.
  • Russell made his one shot and one shot on goal count with his first career goal as a Mountain Lion.
