DURANGO, Colo. – Playing in their first road game of the 2021 season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team edged Fort Lewis College Sunday afternoon at Ray Dennison Memorial Field, 13-12. The non-conference win keeps the Mountain Lions record unblemished at 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS struck first when Kiera Lowe netted the first of her three goals to put UCCS on the scoreboard just four minutes into the game. Natalie Church followed just 30 seconds later to give the road team a 2-0 lead.
- FLC would tie the game and take their first lead, 3-2, after scoring three goals in five minutes. Lowe quickly tied the game at 3-3 just 10 minutes into the match.
- The Skyhawks Makena Carter gave FLC a 4-3 lead, but it would be the last time the Skyhawks led as UCCS outscored FLC, 6-3, in the final 10 minutes of the first half.
- Ann Nelson's goal knotted the game 5-5 before Natalie Church found the back of the net at 7:22 to give UCCS a 6-5 lead they would not relinquish.
- The Mountain Lions took a 9-7 lead at intermission and extended the lead to 11-7 after Audrey Napp and Holly Sodomka started the second half with back-to-back goals.
- FLC started to come back in the game, outscoring UCCS 4-1 during an eight-minute run in the second half, but Julia Patrick's game-winning goal with 7:42 sealed the win for the Mountain Lions as the defense held FLC scoreless for the next six minutes.
- Fort Lewis came within one goal of UCCS with just 1:44 left in regulation, but the Mountain Lions defense held on to the 13-12 lead.
STATS FROM THE GAME
- UCCS outshot the Skyhawks, 35-29, including a 23-18 advantage in the first half.
- Twenty-nine of the Mountain Lions 35 shots landed on frame.
- Both teams picked up 15 ground balls in the first half as the Mountain Lions finished with 23 for the game.
- UCCS won 16 of the 27 draw controls and forced the Skyhawks to commit 23 turnovers.
- Madison McGriff started in goal and played the first half, making seven saves and allowing seven goals. Kennedy Travis finished the game in goal, making five saves and allowing five goals.
- Lowe and Church paced the offense with three goals each. Lowe netted all three of her goals in the first half and added an assist on Hannah Koopal's first half goal for a team high four points. She also attempted a game high seven shots.
- Sydney Malcolm picked up a team high four ground balls and caused three turnovers. She joined Napp, Morgan Miller and Church with three caused turnovers.
- Sodomka won five draws and tag-teamed with Napp to combine for nine of the Mountain Lions 16 draws.

Today's game starts a six-game road trip for the Mountain Lions. UCCS will open their conference season on Saturday, March 27 at Regis University at 1 p.m.
