Softball Makes a Come Back in Series Finale

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team had a tough start losing to Colorado School of Mines 12-2, but started game two strong batting in three runs in the first inning.

All-Time Series: UCCS trails with 10 wins and 22 losses against CSM in the all-time series. 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
  • Mines started the game off strong on the offensive end with their lead off hitter Stefanie Brunello getting walked, Renata Boyd hitting a single, followed by Clara Larson slugging a home run out to left center bringing in a total of three runs.
  • Later in the top of the first inning Megan Dickson hit an RBI bringing in the fourth run of the inning.
  • In response, the Mountain Lions Brianna Santos hit a double to left center in the bottom of the first.  Solana Martinez grounded a single to second, and Peyton Reisman hit a single to right field bringing in Santos for UCCS's first run of the game.
  • In the bottom of the third Santos helped keep the Mountain Lions in the game with a home run making the score 4-2.
  • The Orediggers went off in the top of the fifth inning with two runners on base Megan Dickson hit a single brining in Kylie Redding. Kailey Robb followed with another single to bring in another score.
  • With bases loaded Sam Wade came into pinch hit for Renata Boyd and batted a line drive down to right field bringing in three more runs.
  • Mines finished the fifth inning with two more unearned runs.
 
 
STATS FROM GAME ONE
  • Braelyne Crenshaw pitched 1.2 innings and faced 15 batters allowed seven hits.
  • Solana Martinez batted her sixth home run of the season.
  • Martinez had one run off two at bats and one RBI.
  • Reisman hit one RBI and helped UCCS on defense with four putouts.
  • Taylor White defended the plate with three putouts and one assist.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
  • UCCS started game two with stronger offense starting in the first inning. The first two batters were walked and Quinonez hit a single loading the bases. Meghan Waidler was walked bringing in the first run on the game.
  • Solana Brewster hit a single, bringing in two runners to close out the first inning.
  • The Orediggers responded in the top of the second inning with Stephanie Brunello hitting a double to bring in three runners.
  • Clara Larson made it to first base on a throwing error resulting in their fourth run in the second inning.
  • In the bottom of the third inning Sawyer Brewster nailed a double down to left center field bringing in Bryn Horton.
  • Cambria Jeffers came into pinch hit for Morgan Hernandez-Belew and batted a double to third resulting in one RBI.
  • To end the third inning, Brianna Santos hit a single to left center brining in Maddie Unrein.

STATS FROM GAME TWO
  • Gabby Cronin pitched a complete game, only allowing four runs in off eight hits.
  • Martinez had one putout and two assists for the game.
  • Peyton Reisman made one run on one at bat and led the team in putouts with 10.
  • Sawyer Brewster batted two hits with three RBIs.

The Mountain Lions go on the road next weekend to face Adams State in a four-game series on March 27-28.
