Mountain Lions Split in Day 1 of the Colorado School of Mines Series; Tomorrow’s Games Moved Up 1 Hour

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain Lions started Saturday's doubleheader strong winning 5-0 against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers, but Mines responded in the second game with a 6-4 victory.

Records: UCCS (7-9, 6-6 RMAC), CSM (9-9, 8-6 RMAC)
Location: Mountain Lion Field | Colorado Springs, Colo.
All-Time Series: UCCS trails with eight wins and 20 losses against CSM in the all-time series. 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
  • Defense on both teams started off strong with the first runs of the game not coming until the bottom of the third when Peyton Reisman hit a single out to left field bringing in Brianna Santos and advancing Saleen Quinonez to third.
  • Taylor White hit a single out to center field bringing in Quinonez later in the third inning.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning Morgan Hernandez-Belew drew a walk.
  • With one runner on base, Brianna Santos hit a home run in the fourth inning bringing the score to 4-0.
  • The Mountain Lions defense dominated the fifth inning closing out CSM with the first three batters.
  • Taylor White hit a line drive out to left field resulting in a double in the bottom of the fifth inning.
  • Hernandez-Belew hit a single out to right center later that inning brining in White for the final run of the game.
 
 
STATS FROM GAME ONE
  • Braelyne Crenshaw pitched a complete game, not allowing any runs in on four hits.
  • Santos hit her sixth home run of the season and led the team with two RBIs.
  • With three at-bats White had two hits resulting in one RBI.
  • Sawyer Brewster had five assists on the defensive end.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
  • The Orediggers came out strong in the first inning with lead off batter, Stefanie Brunello, hitting the first home run of the game.
  • In the bottom of the first, Brianna Santos hit a single to get on base. Saleen Quinonez reached base on a fielder's choice and stole second as Santos stole third.  Sawyer Brewster grounded a single to third brining in Santos.
  • Mines responded in the top of the second inning with another home run hit by Megan Dickson.
  • The Mountain Lions weren't able to respond until the bottom of the third inning with Solana Martinez hitting a home run brining in two other runners.
  • UCCS led up until the seventh inning where CSM went off.  With two batters walked, Sidney Wilson hit a double out to left center bringing in one RBI.  Stefanie Brunello hit another double to right center and batted in three other runners.
  • In the bottom of the seventh the Mountain Lions did their best to gain back the runs with Cambria Jeffers pinch hitting for Morgan Hernandez-Belew and hammering a home run out to right center.

STATS FROM GAME TWO
  • Jeffers hit her first home run of the season.
  • Quinonez and Martinez tallied four assists each.
  • Peyton Reisman dominated on defense with 10 putouts for the game.
 
 
UP NEXT
Weather permitting, the third and fourth game of the series have been moved up by one hour and will be played on Sunday, March 21 beginning at 10 a.m.
