Rangers Take Two from Softball

DENVER, Colo. – In a series that was moved up two days due to impending inclement weather, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team lost two games at Regis University Thursday afternoon, 8-0 (six innings) and 6-5.
 
The final two games of the series will be played at a later date this season.

All-Time Series: Regis leads the all-time series, 19-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
 
  • The Mountain Lions were quiet at the plate to start the game as they were struck out seven times in the first four innings and were only able to reach first base once when Peyton Reisman drew a walk in the first inning.
  • UCCS did not record a hit until the fifth inning when Solana Martinez doubled to left field.
  • Three of the Mountain Lions four hits came in the sixth inning from Mia Perez, Saleen Quinonez and Reisman, but UCCS was unable to advance a base runner past second.
  • Regis plated their first run of the game in the third inning and added four more runs in the following inning from four hits and two UCCS errors.
  • RU went up 6-0 in the fifth inning from pitcher's Taylor Armitage's home run.  The Rangers ended the game in the sixth inning from a two-run walk off home run from Jade Loe.
 
STATS FROM GAME ONE
 
  • The Mountain Lions tallied four hits, drew one walk and struck out seven times in the series opener.
  • Braelyne Crenshaw started in the circle for UCCS, allowing two earned runs and striking out two batters in 3.1 innings of work. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
 
  • UCCS snagged an early 2-0 lead in game two to lead off the first inning.  Martinez hit the second double of the inning to score Reisman and Quinonez. 
  • Regis countered in the bottom half of the second inning, taking a 4-2 lead after acquiring five hits, two stolen bases and a UCCS throwing error.
  • The Mountain Lions answered in the third inning and knotted the game at 4-4.  With two outs and the bases loaded, Sawyer Brewster hit a single to right field to score Reisman and Quinonez.
  • Regis regained the lead in the fourth inning, 5-4, and added an insurance run in the fifth inning.
  • Down 6-4 to start the seventh inning, the Mountain Lions started a comeback.  Santos led off the inning with a single up the middle.  The next batter, Quinonez, reached base on a fielder's choice as Santos was able to move to third base on the play from a throwing error.  Perez brought Santos home on a fielder's choice, bringing UCCS within one run, 6-5.  With two outs and two runners on base, the Rangers retired UCCS on a force out at second base to seal the win.

STATS FROM GAME TWO
 
  • The Mountain Lions recorded nine hits in game two.  Quinonez and Martinez each tallied two hits while Reisman and Martinez notched doubles.
  • Quinonez and Reisman combined to score four of the Mountain Lions five runs.
  • Cami Duffey pitched the first four innings of action, striking out two batters and allowing four earned runs.  Lexi Rayburn closed the game for UCCS, allowing one hit and striking out two.
  • The rangers scored six runs on nine hits.  Jessi Case registered a game high three hits.

  • The Mountain Lions will return home to play host ot Colorado School of Mines in a four-game series March 20-21.
