The Mountain Lions Unable to Close Against the ThunderWolves

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team fall short after leading a majority of the game against the Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderWolves in a tough loss, 56-66.

All-Time Series: CSUP leads the series 37-22.  The Mountain Lions longest win streak against the ThunderWovles is eight games and they come off a two-game losing streak.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kaity Hovasse started the Mountain Lions off with the first five points for the team.
  • UCCS went on a 16-2 run in the first quarter with CSUP's next two points not coming until 1:39 remaining, bringing the score 16-4.
  • The last 90 seconds in the first quarter the ThunderWolves got more aggressive attacking the basket to finish 16-9.
  • CSUP sunk four quick buckets in the first two minutes and 13 seconds of the second quarter closing UCCS's lead to 24-19.
  • The ThunderWolves started heating up in the second quarter shooting 7-13 from the field (53.8%) and 3-7 from behind the arc (42.9%).
  • The Mountain Lions forced five turnovers in the second quarter where they were able to capitalize and finish the first half 33-26.
  • CSUP closes UCCS's lead to 38-26 halfway through the third quarter with a three-pointer from Morgan Dial.
  • ThunderWolves defense held the Mountain Lions to just 5-12 from the field (44.2%)
  • Janaiya Davis tied the game in the fourth quarter with two free- throws 48-48
  • CSUP went on a 12-3 run extending their lead 56-49.
  • Abby Feickert attempted to close CSUP's lead with a three with just 48.7 seconds left in the game, 56-61, but the ThunderWolves continued to play tight defense to shut down the rest of the Mountain Lions offense.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Feickert played aggressive offense finishing the night with 17 points and worked the defensive end just as hard with five steals.
  • Anna Davern and Kaity Hovasse each had four assists for the game also matching points with 10 for the night.
  • Jessica Nation worked hard underneath the basket on both the offense and defensive end totaling seven rebounds for the night.
 
UP NEXT
The Mountain Lions go on the road the next two games first playing Black Hills State University in the BHSU Donald E. Young Center at 5:30 pm, then going to Chadron, Neb. to face Chadron State College at 5:30 pm in the CSC Chicoine Center.
